(VAN) In recent years, Vietnam’s exported rice has been recognized not only for its volume but also for its quality, with numerous varieties such as DT8 and ST25 favored by consumers in many countries.
Since re-entering the global rice market in 1989, over the past 35 years, Vietnam has consistently ranked among the world’s leading rice exporters. In recent years, Vietnam has firmly secured its position in the Top 3, alongside India and Thailand.
Despite being a leading exporter, Vietnamese rice was not highly valued in international markets for a long time, as medium- and low-grade rice sold at low prices accounted for a large share of total exports.
However, in recent years, Vietnam’s exported rice has been recognized not only for its volume but also for its quality, with numerous varieties such as DT8 and ST25 favored by consumers in many countries.
As a result, Vietnamese rice has established a solid foothold in many markets, thereby ensuring stable exports even when the global rice market experiences supply and demand fluctuations.
Ladies and gentlemen, for generations, rice has been the pride of the Vietnamese people. Rice grains are the crystallization of farmers’ sweat and hard work in the fields. Today, rice is not only the grain that sustains life, but it has also gone out into the world and conquered consumers worldwide with fragrant, specialty varieties. What has helped Vietnamese rice create its own segment and affirm its position on the global market?
It can be said that in the past, Vietnam mainly produced low-grade rice varieties, similar to many other countries around the world. However, Vietnamese scientists as well as farmers have developed new varieties such as DT, OM, Jasmine, Japonica, and particularly the renowned ST rice. This reflects the tremendous efforts of both scientists and farmers.
Fundamentally, these are unique products of Vietnam. These fragrant rice varieties have been highly favored not only in Asian and African countries but also in developed markets, creating a distinct product line. Thanks to this, we have been able to enhance the value of Vietnamese rice grains and establish a differentiated market. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to develop its rice sector in line with the global growth path.
