Plastic bags and single-use plastic bottles were once common sights in many preschools. However, through the “Plastic-Free Preschool” model implemented by the Centre for Adaptation Capacity Building Research (CAB), schools across Da Nang are gradually changing, helping children develop environmentally friendly habits from an early age.
At Dien Nam Dong Preschool, children are taught to identify common plastic waste, learn about the harmful impacts of plastic bags and disposable cups, and practice eco-friendly habits. These lessons extend beyond the classroom, reaching into their homes and families.

The “Plastic-Free Preschool” model was developed by CAB based on its “Green Schools – No Plastic Waste” initiative launched in 2022. After being implemented in 35 schools, the program has expanded to preschools with the goal of fostering green living habits from the earliest years of life.
Beyond reducing plastic waste through recycling and waste collection, the model seeks to change the behavior of teachers, parents, and students through education, communication activities, and regular hands-on practice aimed at reducing waste at the source.

Under the program’s targets, participating schools aim to reduce at least 70 percent of plastic waste generated from single-use plastic products. More importantly, simple actions such as using reusable water bottles, refillable lunch containers, and sorting waste are helping build environmental awareness among students. And when parents actively participate, the seeds of a sustainable lifestyle can continue to grow and spread from schools to every household.
