The Netherlands wishes to initiate a waste-to-electricity project in Quang Ninh

(VAN) A Dutch enterprise wants to invest in Quang Ninh’s waste treatment plants to turn waste into electricity with a total capital of over USD 90 million.

StratCap International Pte. Ltd. (StratCap), a Dutch company, has recently sent an open letter to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Party Committee and Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van, Chairman of Quang Ninh People's Committee, expressing their interest to a waste-to-electricity project to treat domestic solid waste in Quang Ninh.

In the letter, Mr. Wieger D. Otter, General Director of StratCap, wrote: "Upon witnessing the challenges that cities are facing with regards to their waste treatment systems, StratCap would like to be able to work together with the local government by applying technology and management skills of the city of Amsterdam as well as investing in waste-to-electricity projects.”

According to Mr. Wieger D. Otter, StratCap is actively applying for an investment registration certificate (IRC) for a similar project with a capacity of 250 tons/day or 70 MW in Hanoi. Having received support from the Ministry and Department of Science and Technology, the company is currently looking for opportunities to invest in new projects.

After visiting and studying the ground of the Solid Waste Treatment Center (belonging to Indevco Group in Ha Long) and learning about the challenges in the implementation phase, the General Director of StratCap affirmed that he was "confident to bring European technology from Amsterdam Energy Company to solve the problem, turning 750 tons of waste a day into 17 MW in a carbon-neutral manner while remaining compliant with European environmental emissions standards."

StratCap therefore wishes to have the opportunity to discuss with the local government as well as receive the support of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh. The company hopes to have the waste transferred in order to be able to carry out the project and discuss with the local authority about claiming the aforementioned land.

"We will need to invest about USD 90 million to build and operate a waste treatment plant with a capacity of 750 tons/day. This investment will be contributed by Harvest Waste Co. Ltd., the technology provider, and loans from the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) and the Asian Development Bank," said Mr. Wieger D. Otter.

StratCap has now acquired the right of use and support to apply the “High-Efficiency Domestic Waste Incinerator Plant” technology. This technology has been developed and applied at Amsterdam Energy Company and has its efficiency proven to be up to 30% (higher than the current average of 23% efficiency in Europe).This technology is highly appreciated by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam as well as departments of Hanoi city.

According to StarCap, many leaders who have visited Amsterdam have concluded that this technology significantly reduces greenhouse gas (38 times more harmful than CO2 gas) thanks to the act of burying the soil, significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to other uncontrolled waste incineration technologies, turning non-reusable waste into energy while completely satisfying Vietnam's gas emission regulations.
