Vinacafe aims for green transition

(VAN) Vinacafe is accelerating the adoption of science, technology, and digital transformation to drive a green transition, enhance quality, and meet the demands of the new era.

On August 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Party Committee of the Vietnam National Coffee Corporation (Vinacafe) held its 9th Congress of Delegates for the 2025–2030 term. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a congratulatory flower arrangement to the event.

Annual growth above 12%

Mr. Dang Hong Tuan, General Director of Vinacafe, said that in the first three years of the 2020–2025 term, Vinacafe’s production and business operations faced many difficulties. Coffee prices had dropped to the lowest level in 30 years, while consumption markets were hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. In the final two years of the term, thanks to a strong recovery in coffee prices, both Vinacafe and its member units began to operate profitably again, gradually overcoming and addressing previous challenges.

“The Party Committee of Vinacafe has led and directed the development and signing of coffee plantation contract schemes for the 2018–2022 and 2023–2027 periods; focused on product specialization, strengthened deep processing, and boosted trade activities to improve product value. We have also implemented digital mapping of cultivation areas and adopted centralized accounting software to enhance management efficiency,” Mr. Dang Hong Tuan shared.

According to him, during the 2020–2025 term, the Party Committee of Vinacafe has met and exceeded key targets set by the Congress Resolution, including revenue growth, contributions to the state budget, and social welfare, achieving an average annual growth rate of over 12%.

Accordingly, total revenue and income for the 2020–2025 period reached VND 11.132 trillion, with an average annual growth rate of 12.25%, exceeding the Congress Resolution’s target of 5% per year by 7.25 percentage points. As of June 30, 2025, total capital and total assets stood at VND 2.95 trillion. The charter capital at the parent company remained unchanged from the beginning of the term at VND 1.15 trillion. Total contributions to the state budget during 2020–2025 were estimated at VND 367.8 billion, with an average annual growth rate of 11.67%, surpassing the Resolution’s target of 6% per year by 5.67 percentage points.

Notably, in 2020–2025, Vinacafe implemented social welfare programs worth a total of VND 26.48 billion, averaging VND 5.296 billion per year, higher than the target of VND 5 billion per year set in the Resolution.

At present, Vinacafe manages 16,576 rods of coffee farmland, including over 13,000 hectares of coffee in business production, 1,637 hectares of rubber, and 2,086 hectares of rice. The corporation has 45 member companies, operating mainly in the Central Highlands provinces, with the primary mission of fostering socio-economic development and creating jobs for nearly 25,000 workers, including more than 3,000 from local ethnic minority communities, contributing to maintaining local security and social stability.

From 2020 to 2022, due to the pandemic and economic downturn, along with rising input costs, lingering financial issues, and falling coffee prices, at times even dropping below production costs, Vinacafe’s production and business performance did not meet the targets set by the Party Congress Resolution for the 2020–2025 term.

“Since 2023, Vinacafe’s production and business operations have seen positive changes, with profitable performance. The processing of roasted and ground coffee, as well as instant coffee under the VIETNAM COFFEE brand, has begun to take shape, gradually entering the market and gaining consumer acceptance,” said Mr. Dang Hong Tuan.

Towards green growth

Mr. Dang Hong Tuan stated that the 9th Congress of Delegates for the 2025–2030 term was held under the motto “Solidarity – Democracy – Innovation – Breakthrough – Development.” The Congress aims to adopt the ideas and orientations set out in the documents of the Party Central Committee for submission to the 14th National Party Congress, as well as those of the Government Party Committee, and to review the implementation of the Resolution of Vinacafe’s 8th Party Congress for the 2020–2025 term.

In addition, it will define the objectives, tasks, and solutions for the 2025–2030 term. The Congress will also discuss and contribute opinions to the documents of Party Congresses at all levels, elect the new Executive Committee, and select delegates to attend the 1st Congress of the Government Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

According to Mr. Dang Hong Tuan, the Party Committee of Vinacafe is currently a grassroots-level upper-tier Party Committee under the Government Party Committee, comprising 20 Party organizations - 7 grassroots Party Committees, 4 grassroots Party Cells, and 9 Party Cells under the Vinacafe Party Committee - with a total of 510 members to date.

“In the 2025–2030 term, the Party Committee of Vinacafe will continue to enhance the leadership capacity and combat strength of the Party organization; uphold its tradition of solidarity, dynamism, and creativity; overcome difficulties and challenges; concentrate resources; and accelerate corporate restructuring. The corporation will actively apply science, technology, and digital transformation, aiming for a green transition. At the same time, it will improve the quality of growth to meet the demands of Vietnam’s coffee industry in the country’s new era of development, while enhancing the material and spiritual well-being of workers,” Mr. Dang Hong Tuan said.

Accordingly, Vinacafe will renew its management personnel, reform its management mechanism toward greater specialization and standardization to address weaknesses, and remove existing bottlenecks. Efforts will focus on restructuring underperforming units and thoroughly resolving issues related to contracted farming and plantation management. The corporation will strengthen connections and cooperation with suitable partners to develop value chains and make well-considered investments to enhance the added value of its products.

Vinacafe will leverage its advantages in raw material areas, identifying key strengths to develop these areas into core specialized cultivation zones, exemplary in production organization, technology application, environmental landscape protection, and social development. The corporation will optimize production and logistics services, gradually deepen its participation in domestic value chains, and expand into export markets. It will accurately define target markets, establish strategic partnerships, and build resources and linkages to invest in deep processing development.

“With a vision toward 2035, Vinacafe aims to become a leading enterprise in agriculture and green growth; to achieve sustainable development with high competitiveness in both regional and international markets; and to stand out as a model in applying science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, thereby contributing to the nation’s entry into a new era of development,” Mr. Dang Hong Tuan shared.

The Congress elected 21 members to Vinacafe’s Party Executive Committee for the 2025–2030 term. Among them, Mr. Dang Hong Tuan, General Director, serves as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; and Mr. Nguyen Van Minh serves as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Vinacafe’s Party Committee Inspection Commission.
