BAF invests VND 2,000 billion in high-tech pig farming in Quang Tri

(VAN) On August 19, 2025, BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company (HOSE: BAF) successfully held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gia Han high-tech pig farming farm.

The event was one of 250 projects and works nationwide, spanning 34 provinces and cities, with simultaneous groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies at 80 venues. It was held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025), in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch 57/CĐ-TTg dated May 5, 2025, and Official Dispatch 129/CĐ-TTg dated August 7, 2025.

The event also had the honor of welcoming Mr. Pham Kim Dang, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Tran Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee; leaders of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee; heads of provincial departments and agencies; as well as partners from banks, investment funds, universities and colleges, and suppliers of BAF Vietnam.

The Gia Han high-tech pig farming project in Quang Tri is being invested with a total capital of VND 2,000 billion, with a production scale of 15,000 sows and 450,000 fattening pigs. It is also BAF’s largest groundbreaking project to date.

BAF has designed the Gia Han farm based on a modern high-tech livestock farming model, transferred from Muyuan – the world’s largest pig food and farming group, featuring:

- A 5-layer biosecurity system and 4-layer air filtration to proactively prevent African swine fever and other livestock diseases;

- Smart livestock management systems and equipment that monitor and diagnose animal health while adjusting the farm environment as needed;

- Comprehensive investment in odor and disinfectant systems, as well as waste management and treatment technologies that save resources and enable efficient recycling under a circular economy model. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions and protects the environment through solutions such as solar power systems, management and reuse of livestock waste as valuable resources (e.g., water recycling and organic fertilizer production for agriculture), and proactive annual greenhouse gas emission reporting according to global ESG (Environmental – Social – Governance) standards.

“When livestock management and biosecurity are well ensured, businesses not only minimize the risk of disease, protect the health of their herds, and improve business efficiency, but also make an important contribution to stabilizing the supply of clean, traceable meat at reasonable prices for the market. This, in turn, helps ensure Vietnam’s food and nutritional security […].

BAF Vietnam strives, together with other key projects, to make Quang Tri a highlight in high-tech livestock farming in particular, and in modern, sustainable agricultural development in general,” said Ms. Bui Huong Giang, General Director of BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company, at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Quang Tri is a province with a strong agricultural tradition, where livestock farming plays a key role, with the sector’s production value growing steadily at 8–10% per year. Through decisive implementation of various measures, the province’s livestock industry has undergone a significant transformation from small-scale household farms to modern, large-scale farm operations, attracting numerous major investment projects.

“When completed, the Gia Han high-tech pig farming project will bring many practical benefits: creating stable jobs and increasing income for local workers; adding value to agricultural products; contributing to the provincial budget; and boosting the province’s economic growth. The project will also help establish a complete value chain from animal feed – livestock farming – slaughtering – processing – consumption, thereby positioning and strengthening the province’s agricultural brand in both domestic and international markets.

At the same time, the project opens opportunities for international cooperation, attracting capital, technology, and management experience from advanced countries, reinforcing the province’s status as an attractive destination for high-tech agricultural investors,” said Mr. Tran Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee.

Representing the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Director Pham Kim Dang, highly praised the scale and investment of the company in the high-tech pig farming project in Quang Tri.

“The Gia Han high-tech pig farming project by BAF Company is being implemented at a golden moment for the sector’s transformation and is expected to create a breakthrough, contributing to the realization of the strategic development goals of the livestock industry for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2045 […]. A standout feature of the project is the application of a range of the world’s most advanced and modern technologies, introduced for the first time in livestock farming in Vietnam. The project is a clear demonstration of the modern and sustainable development of Vietnam’s livestock industry, achieving efficiency while being environmentally friendly,” Mr. Dang stated.

Vietnam’s livestock sector continues to face numerous challenges from African swine fever. At the same time, the industry is shaping a trend toward transformation and modernization, moving to large-scale, centralized farms that operate according to international standards and are environmentally friendly. Therefore, biosecurity and environmental protection are crucial factors that help businesses approach their business goals and sustainable development objectives.

Drawing on the expertise transferred from Muyuan - the world’s largest livestock farming group, BAF is confident in upgrading its biosecurity systems and livestock waste management, efficiently recycling and utilizing resources through technology applications. This ensures a stable supply of clean, traceable meat at reasonable prices for the market, contributing to food security and stability; minimizes negative environmental impacts; develops a circular economy value chain; and lays a solid foundation for sustainable development - a goal increasingly prioritized by businesses and organizations worldwide.

BAF is pursuing an ambitious vision for 2030: reaching a scale of 450,000 sows and 10 million fattening pigs supplied to the market, positioning itself among the leading companies in Vietnam’s pig farming industry.

Also this morning, Ms. Bui Huong Giang, representing BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company, presented 30 charitable houses worth VND 1.8 billion to support Quang Tri province in replacing temporary and dilapidated homes.
