Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam promotes education on water conservation

(VAN) Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Training to implement an education program on water conservation, reaching nearly 1 million primary school students nationwide.

The education initiative on water conservation, implemented by Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), adopts a long-term vision and a comprehensive education model. The initiative has been replicated across the country.

With a student-centered approach and teachers serving as sources of inspiration, the program organizes numerous local activities, including training sessions that equip school administrators and teachers with the necessary support to deliver valuable knowledge to students effectively.

Raising awareness and action to protect water sources

Alongside its production and business operations, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam consistently pursues activities aligned with its core value of “Giving Back to Society.” A standout program is “Mizuiku - I Love Clean Water,” launched in Vietnam in 2015.

Vietnam was the first country outside Japan to implement the Mizuiku Program, educating primary school students from awareness to action on water conservation and saving. This is achieved through classroom lessons, experiential nature activities in national parks, and clean water projects that enhance access to clean water and improve school health.

On May 9, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City held a training session to enhance the capacity of school managers and teachers to effectively deliver educational content on water saving and conservation. More than 100 primary-level education officials and teachers in Can Tho City participated in professional training and skills enhancement. They received guidance on using teaching materials for water saving and conservation in primary schools.

Education officials and teachers in Can Tho engaged in the practical application of Mizuiku materials in teaching content.

This activity reflects Can Tho City's efforts to continue the positive results achieved in 2024, with more than 100 teachers from 20 primary schools in the city being trained, enabling them to reach and spread knowledge to over 13,500 students.

Ms. Ngo Nu Huyen Trang, Director of Sustainable Development and Communications at Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, shared, "Over the past 30 years of presence and development in Vietnam, Suntory PepsiCo has not only maintained its leadership in the beverage industry but has also been a pioneer in promoting sustainable development activities. Through the power of education, the company aims to develop the Mizuiku program not only to educate about water sources but also to advocate for water itself.

Nationwide, the “Mizuiku - I Love Clean Water” program, initiated by Suntory PepsiCo, has become a highlight in educational activities on water conservation. In 2023, a strategic partnership with the MOET marked a new milestone for the program. Specifically, the Mizuiku documentary, with effective educational methods and innovative teaching content, has been developed and officially approved as a national instructional material for water education in primary schools.

Over its 10-year journey in Vietnam, Mizuiku has reached nearly 1 million students and 16,000 teachers while also building or renovating 186 clean water projects across all 63 provinces and cities.

Journey of creating positive impacts for the environment and communities

As a company deeply connected to water resources, Suntory PepsiCo has launched various initiatives aimed at efficient water use, conservation, and restoration of water sources while promoting education to ensure the sustainability of water for future generations. In its factories, the company has optimized water use through a water circulation process, steadily reducing water consumption in production.

The Forestry Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sustainable forest development, aiming to conserve water sources and absorb carbon.

In addition, Suntory PepsiCo continuously strives to improve its packaging to be more environmentally friendly. It was the first beverage company in Vietnam to launch products with packaging made from 100% recycled plastic (Pepsi) and to introduce bottled water (Aquafina) with the lightest packaging weight in the global system. In 2023, the company reduced the use of virgin plastic by approximately 5,800 tons, equivalent to cutting 23,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

With its goal to “For Water,” Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has created positive impacts for the environment and communities through education on water conservation. Its effective collaboration with government agencies, along with a strong commitment to innovation in production and eco-friendly packaging, demonstrates the company's pioneering role in protecting water resources, not only for today but for future generations.
