Launching the HDPE ‘super marine cage’ with a diameter of 100 meters

Recently, East Sea Jumping Squid Joint Stock Company held a launching ceremony for semi-natural marine cages for commercial squid farming, combined with snail farming at the bottom, using the world’s largest HDPE cage with a diameter of 100 meters, equivalent to 100,000 cubic meters of water.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngoc, Chairman of the Board of Directors of East Sea Jumping Squid Joint Stock Company, stated that the cost of completing this cage was over 15 billion VND over a period of over 3 months.

According to Nguyen Ba Ngoc, commercial squid have a tendency to cannibalize each other, so the company had to create cages with a large water volume to ensure distance between the squids, thereby increasing profits. When operational, this cage can stock 100,000 squid seeds and 5.5 million snails each year. Based on pilot farming results, if the survival ratio is 50/50, after 8 months, we will harvest about 50 tons of squid and 55 tons of snails.

Previously, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien visited the commercial squid farming model in a semi-natural environment at the East Sea Jumping Squid Company. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien assessed that this nature-friendly squid farming model can raise many individuals and bring high economic efficiency. This model offers solutions for economic development and reduces pressure on exploitation. It increases aquaculture, provides clean products with traceable origins, and serves domestic consumption and export.
