These days, Hang Ma Street seems to be draped in a dazzling cloak of flags and lanterns. Crowds of people flock here, creating a vibrant and bustling scene as the whole country looks forward to the 80th anniversary of National Day.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thao – a visitor from Thanh Hoa – has been in Hanoi with her children for four days. Visiting Hang Ma during National Day for the first time, she wanted her children to witness with their own eyes the festive and colorful atmosphere of the capital ahead of this historic celebration.
“I brought my children to visit, to see Uncle Ho’s Mausoleum, and to experience the atmosphere in Hanoi during these days before the parade. Today, we came to Hang Ma to buy some items and ‘I Love Vietnam’ souvenirs. The atmosphere is so lively and exciting. I feel truly thrilled and eager to immerse myself in it.”
Not only Ms. Thao’s family, but in these days, Hang Ma Street is rarely quiet. Groups of tourists, young friends, and even multi-generational families stroll leisurely, choosing bright red national flags or strings of lanterns in every color. “Today I came to Hang Ma just to take photos. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary, the atmosphere here is extremely lively, the streets are filled with flags and flowers. For nearly a week now, it has been very crowded and festive.”
For the shopkeepers here, Hang Ma during the holiday season is not merely about business. They see the joy of their customers and the lively streets as a source of happiness and motivation to keep their trade alive. The busier the streets, the prouder they feel to contribute to the festive spirit for locals and visitors alike.[Interview: Ms. Tran Thu Hien – Shop owner]
“For the 80th anniversary, so many people have been shopping. My store can hardly keep up — everything is selling out, we’ve even run out of stock.”
Amid the hustle and bustle of life, Hang Ma these days has become a meeting point of joy and connection. A place where locals and visitors blend together, where each light and each flag carries deeper meaning, reminding us of the nation’s 80-year journey.
