The famous Tet flower village in Ha Tinh is busy planting seeds

(VAN) Farmers in Luu Vinh Son commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh) are urgently planting flower and ornamental plants to supply the market for the 2024 Lunar New Year.

In Xuan Son village (Luu Vinh Son commune), Da Lat chrysanthemum is the main flower variety that farmers choose to grow to serve the market during Tet. To ensure a beautiful and satisfactory Tet flower garden, in addition to sowing seeds on time, farmers must also carefully choose healthy seedlings to plant, take care of them carefully, and regularly prune branches and tops so that the flower clusters can bloom, producing many branches and flowers.

Mr. Duong Cong Tien (Xuan Son village) said that this year his family planted 500 square meters of chrysanthemums in a greenhouse with nearly 30 thousand seedlings to supply the upcoming Giap Thin Lunar New Year market. His family invested in a net house, along with a lighting system to help flowers bloom in time for Tet. In Xuan Son village, in the last months of the year, growing chrysanthemums and ornamental plants is the main source of income for many households. Tet flowers here are provided to focal points in the region and neighboring districts and towns in Ha Tinh.

These days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (Xuan Son village) is busy mobilizing human resources to sow seeds in time for the Tet flower season. Ms. Thanh said that immediately after harvesting the melon crop at the end of August, she also cleaned and sanitized the land, applied disinfectant lime, and applied organic fertilizer to let the soil rest before entering a new season.

"This flower season, my family planted about 20 thousand Da Lat chrysanthemum seedlings in all colors, each seedling costs VND 500. Planting time is from mid-September of the lunar calendar and is expected to be harvested at the end of December lunar calendar to sell on Lunar New Year. In previous years, the average price of chrysanthemums during Tet was about VND 3,000 - 3,500/plant," Ms. Thanh said.

According to Mr. Bui Cong Thu, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luu Vinh Son commune, this year's Tet flower crop, the entire commune has more than 50 households sowing seeds with an area of more than 2.5 hectares, concentrated mainly in Xuan Son village, the main flower varieties are chrysanthemums imported from Da Lat.

"In the coming years, the commune government will continue to propagate and mobilize people to maintain the traditional flower growing profession; at the same time, encourage flower growing according to new models to achieve higher economic value. On the basis of land re-planning, the locality also creates conditions and encourages people to grow a variety of flower species to serve market needs and serve tourists visiting and taking souvenir photos...," Mr. Thu said.
