MB launches 'Million green landmarks' campaign in Truong Sa archipelago

(VAN) MB launched the 'Million green landmarks' campaign to raise funds for tree planting, aiming to green the Truong Sa archipelago and contribute to safeguarding maritime sovereignty.

On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and the Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the Vietnam People’s Navy encourages the public to join the fundraising campaign "Million green landmarks - Pillars of trust," with the goal of mobilizing community support to plant 1 million trees, thereby helping to achieve 50% of the Greening Truong Sa Program ahead of schedule. The campaign is spearheaded by MB, which is committed to contributing and connecting community resources.

The campaign’s message is: Show your patriotism through practical action. In 2025, the whole nation is called upon to support naval soldiers in reaching the target of successfully planting 1 million trees to green the Truong Sa archipelago, thereby strengthening natural defense, improving the living environment for officers and soldiers, and firmly asserting Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.

A representative of the Vietnam People’s Navy shared that from the very first days of guarding the islands, earlier generations carried seedlings from the mainland to plant on the remote islands, regarding them as a message of presence. Continuing that tradition, every tree planted today is seen as a sacred green landmark on the nation’s seas and islands. One million trees will symbolize one million landmarks of trust jointly built by the people and naval soldiers at the frontlines.

"In these historic days of August, I hope that every citizen will express their patriotism through practical action by contributing trees and encouraging our naval soldiers. I firmly believe that with collective unity, we will turn the aspiration of a green Truong Sa into reality," the Navy representative emphasized.

The first 5 years of the Greening Truong Sa journey

The “Greening Truong Sa” Program, initiated by the Naval Command in 2021, is a major policy, both urgent and long-term, that has received broad support from local authorities and the public.

From the 2022 Plan of Naval Region 4 Command, the Greening Truong Sa open letter was sent to 44 localities, agencies, and enterprises across the country to promote communication, mobilize participation, and pool resources.

Responding enthusiastically, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, through the City’s Fatherland Front Committee, launched the program "For a Green Truong Sa", encouraging organizations such as the City Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment, along with many enterprises and individuals, to contribute 100,000 trees and materials. Dak Nong Province contributed 200 million VND, while Binh Dinh Province donated tens of thousands of coconut seedlings to form the “Binh Dinh Coconut Road” on Song Tu Tay Island.

According to the Navy, since its launch, within just four years (2021-2024), the soldiers and residents of Truong Sa, with the support of people nationwide, have planted nearly 90,000 trees on the islands such as coconuts, casuarina, sea almond, barringtonia, calophyllum, mango, and square-fruit barringtonia. They also established nurseries with 30,000 seedlings, and transported nearly 3,000 tons of soil and over 400 tons of fertilizer to the islands. This is an extraordinary effort, as the pace of afforestation in Truong Sa is on par with that of many mainland regions. These results embody the spirit of unity and national responsibility towards Truong Sa.

In the period 2025-2027, the program aims to plant an additional 2 million trees to provide shade, windbreaks, and wave protection; apply technology in tree care and protection; expand nurseries on the islands; raise awareness of marine environmental protection; and reinforce Vietnam’s “green sovereignty.”

Enterprises fulfilling social responsibility for a Green Truong Sa

Elevating the goal of “Greening Truong Sa with 1 Million Trees,” in 2025 MB reported to and received approval from the Ministry of National Defense to mobilize financial resources for planting about 1 million trees in Truong Sa. MB will allocate part of its budget and mobilize contributions from organizations, individuals, and its customers to implement the program. In addition, MB has committed to contribute at least 50 billion VND in counterpart funding through green finance activities and initiatives that spread patriotic spirit on social media platforms.

In June 2026, on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, MB brought together 100 journalists from across the country to Truong Sa, carrying with them the sentiments of the people for the soldiers and residents on the islands. Their first-hand experiences and emotions will be shared through articles, reports, and television programs, spreading love for the sea and islands to audiences both at home and abroad. This will help rally the community’s support for Truong Sa, joining hands to assist the soldiers and residents in safeguarding national sovereignty.

So far, MB has mobilized participation from more than 60,000 organizations and individuals, including leaders and technology experts from over 60 domestic and international corporations. The campaign is expected to reach the milestone of 80 billion VND, to be presented to the Navy before September 2, 2025.

The campaign “Million green landmarks - Pillars of trust” is expected to gain even stronger support from organizations and individuals inside and outside Vietnam, joining forces toward the shared goal of 1 million trees. 1 million promises of trust will be dedicated to the soldiers and people of Truong Sa.

In the digital era, technology serves as the bridge for meaningful community action, opening up opportunities for every Vietnamese to become a naval soldier, contributing to the greening of the frontline islands, bringing new vitality so that Truong Sa remains a strong shield protecting the nation’s maritime sovereignty.
