Heavy rains and flash floods following Storm Wipha (Storm No. 3) caused severe damage in Nghe An Province, affecting thousands of households. Among the most urgent challenges was the lack of clean water, which directly impacted residents’ daily activities, hygiene, and health.
As part of the nationwide efforts to support disaster recovery, on July 29, 2025, with the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, several international organizations including UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and ActionAid Vietnam provided emergency drinking water supplies to affected communities. Further distributions are planned for other impacted areas.
Although floodwaters have receded in the western mountainous communes of Nghe An, the aftermath remains daunting. Homes are buried in mud, roads have been damaged by landslides, and water supply systems are either destroyed or buried. As a result, residents have struggled to clean up, bathe, or cook due to the lack of clean water. This poses a serious risk of unsanitary conditions and potential outbreaks of disease. The shortage of clean water remains a critical issue for thousands of households.
This humanitarian effort aims to meet the urgent need for clean water, reduce the risk of disease, and help stabilize the lives of people in disaster-affected areas.
