Global coffee prices surged today as U.S. roasters ramped up purchases from Brazil ahead of the potential implementation of new tariffs starting August 1. According to Reuters, the U.S. is threatening to impose a 50% tariff on nearly all imports from Brazi - the world's largest coffee producer.
Latest domestic and global coffee prices on July 15, 2025
If the 50% tariff is enforced, Brazil’s coffee exports to the U.S. may be disrupted, and the U.S. will likely struggle to find alternative suppliers offering comparable volume and pricing. Coffee purchase prices in the U.S - already high - could continue to rise, potentially reducing domestic demand and putting further pressure on this agricultural commodity.
Expert Michael Nugent warned of potential volatility in the market and recommended that all stakeholders prepare for sudden price fluctuations.
