Latest update on Arabica and Robusta prices on August 19, 2025
Global coffee prices today turned down sharply on the London exchange but continued to edge up slightly on the New York exchange.
Below-average rainfall in Minas Gerais, Brazil’s largest arabica-growing region, supported coffee prices, according to a report from Somar Meteorologia. However, robusta prices fell after Brazil’s Agriculture Minister, Mr. Favaro, stated that the U.S. may exempt Brazilian coffee exports from the 50% tariff.
The market is now awaiting an official decision from President Trump on this tariff policy, which could affect export sales and increase domestic stockpiles. Arabica coffee inventories monitored by ICE fell to their lowest level in 1.25 years last week before edging back up to 733,105 bags.
Robusta inventories also fell to a three-week low. The CFTC reported that speculators increased their net long positions in arabica coffee on ICE U.S. during the week ending August 12.
