Viet Nam aims to showcase a green national image at GREEN EXPO 2027

On the morning of July 20, Deputy Minister Vo Van Hung chaired a meeting of the Organizing Committee to implement the plan for Viet Nam's participation in GREEN EXPO 2027, to be held in Yokohama, Japan.

Telling the story of a green Viet Nam

At GREEN EXPO 2027, Viet Nam will showcase its key agricultural products, One Commune One Product (OCOP) products, traditional craft villages, and green and circular economy models. The Viet Nam Pavilion will welcome visitors from March 19 to September 26, 2027.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, said ministries and relevant agencies are implementing the participation plan according to schedule. The goal is to promote Viet Nam's image while highlighting its commitment to green growth, sustainable development, and innovation. Key tasks have already begun, with clear responsibilities and close coordination among agencies.

Organizers have also started developing the pavilion's theme, key messages, and design concept. The exhibition will highlight Viet Nam's efforts in green growth, energy transition, environmental protection, the circular economy, and green technologies. At the same time, they are studying international best practices and the Japanese organizer's requirements to ensure the pavilion meets the exhibition's standards.

Preparations for the pavilion are also moving ahead. Design concepts are being refined, while contractor selection, environmentally friendly materials, and modern exhibition technologies are under review.

Mr. Tien said an initial communications plan has been prepared to raise awareness of Viet Nam's participation. The campaign will target both domestic and international audiences through multimedia channels, digital platforms, and side events. Organizers are also encouraging businesses, local authorities, and organizations to join the effort and help present Viet Nam as a dynamic, innovative, and environmentally responsible country.

Work is also underway to mobilize resources, especially through public-private partnerships and other forms of social participation. Funding mechanisms and sponsorship opportunities are being explored to support the construction and operation of the pavilion. Meanwhile, plans are being developed to train staff, guides, and officials who will work at the exhibition.

Despite the progress, Mr. Tien said preparations still face several challenges, including demanding technical requirements, strict environmental standards, the long preparation period, and the need for close coordination among stakeholders. He called on relevant agencies to speed up implementation and complete the remaining work so that Viet Nam can make a strong and professional impression at GREEN EXPO 2027.

At the meeting, representatives of ministries and agencies agreed that preparations should move forward proactively and efficiently. They also called for a proposal on the participation of senior Party and State leaders at key events to strengthen Viet Nam's international profile and increase the exhibition's impact.

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposed three key periods for major activities: May-June 2027, National Day on September 2, and a possible link with the Viet Nam Festival in Tokyo. They also stressed the importance of selecting a high-attendance date for Viet Nam National Day at the exhibition.

Representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed a modern pavilion in a prime location that reflects both Viet Nam's green development goals and its cultural identity. They also recommended displaying nationally recognized products and brands with strong international potential while making greater use of digital technologies to enhance visitors' experience.

They added that exhibition activities should combine cultural promotion, trade promotion, and investment attraction. Organizers should also identify potential partners early, arrange business matching events, and facilitate cooperation agreements during the exhibition.

Using digital technology to enhance the visitor experience

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Minister Vo Van Hung said participating in GREEN EXPO 2027 is a strategic task. Beyond promoting trade, it is an opportunity to strengthen Viet Nam's image as a country committed to green transition and sustainable development.

Given the pavilion's limited size, he called for a streamlined and modern design that makes full use of digital technologies. The exhibition should highlight Viet Nam's strengths in green agriculture, the circular economy, sustainable development, and OCOP products. It should also use videos, interactive screens, QR codes, and digital exhibitions to create a more engaging visitor experience.

The pavilion, he said, should consistently convey the message of a green nation, ecological agriculture, and innovation. More importantly, it should go beyond displaying achievements and tell the story of Viet Nam's journey toward a modern and sustainable future.

Deputy Minister Hung also instructed relevant agencies to quickly finalize the inter-agency coordination mechanism, with clear responsibilities and timelines. He called for stronger participation from businesses, especially those leading in green technologies, while ensuring transparent and effective resource mobilization.

On communications, he asked for a coordinated strategy that reaches both domestic and international audiences and strengthens Viet Nam's national brand. The goal, he said, is not simply to take part in the exhibition but to leave a lasting impression and further raise Viet Nam's profile on the global stage.

Deputy Minister Vo Van Hung assigned the Viet Nam Agriculture and Nature News (VAN News) to lead the overall communications campaign. As an immediate task, the newspaper will launch dedicated Vietnamese- and English-language pages to provide information on GREEN EXPO 2027 to readers, businesses, and partners in Viet Nam and abroad.
