The Prime Minister has issued a decision approving Viet Nam’s participation in GREEN EXPO 2027, scheduled to take place from March 19 to September 26, 2027, in Yokohama, Japan.

The plan aims to build the Viet Nam Pavilion into a national symbol of ecological agriculture, circular economy, and sustainable development, thereby affirming Viet Nam’s commitment to green growth, emissions reduction, and climate change adaptation. At the same time, it seeks to promote the Viet Nam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world through exchanges in culture, agriculture, and green investment.
In addition, participation in the expo is expected to expand opportunities for trade cooperation, investment, and technology transfer between businesses of the two countries in the fields of green agriculture and the circular economy.
To achieve these goals, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has been assigned to take the lead, in coordination with relevant ministries, sectors, agencies, and organizations, to establish the Viet Nam GREEN EXPO 2027 Organizing Committee; implement the participation plan; organize and operate the Viet Nam Pavilion; and carry out promotional, communication, and trade promotion activities in accordance with regulations. The ministry will also develop exhibition content showcasing the national image, key agricultural products, OCOP products, traditional craft village products, and models of green agriculture and sustainable circular economy development. These activities will be implemented in a coordinated manner to ensure consistent messaging, branding, and effective communication for international audiences.
According to Nguyen Minh Tien, Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), GREEN EXPO 2027, themed “Scenery of the future for happiness,” emphasizes a vision of a future society in harmony with the environment.
The orientation of the event itself shows that green development is no longer a symbolic choice but has become the common language of global development. In that context, Viet Nam’s preparation for participation in GREEN EXPO 2027 carries significance beyond a single trade promotion activity.
It is an opportunity for Viet Nam’s agriculture to present a new image to the world: not only as a country with strong production and export capacity, but also as one pursuing a green, responsible growth model and aiming to rise in the global value chain. It is also a chance for Viet Nam to learn from international experience, access advanced development models, and enhance governance capacity in sustainable agriculture.

Mr. Tien also noted that developing markets and building the brand of Vietnamese agricultural products within the global value chain are no longer optional but mandatory in the new stage of development. This is not only a matter of trade but also a national strategic issue related to growth models, adaptability, competitiveness, and integration capacity. As green and environmental standards become increasingly stringent, building a brand associated with quality and sustainability will be decisive in helping Vietnamese agricultural products maintain their market share.
The export achievement of USD 70.09 billion in 2025 is a proud milestone, but it is not the limit for Viet Nam’s agriculture. The old limits are gradually being replaced by a higher demand: to enter the global market not only as a supplier of goods, but as a country with a strong brand, green standards, digital capacity, and responsibility within the global value chain. This requires coordinated participation from the State, businesses, and farmers throughout the transformation process.
In that journey, striving for a strong presence at GREEN EXPO 2027 should be seen as a powerful message about Viet Nam’s position in the global green economy: Viet Nam is not standing aside or lagging behind, but proactively participating, adapting, and asserting itself through sustainable development values. Thorough preparation from now will determine the level of success and the impact of Viet Nam’s image at this international event.
“With the existing foundation, the right direction, strong determination for transformation, and the aspiration to reach USD 100 billion in agricultural export value by 2030, Viet Nam’s agriculture has every basis to enter a new stage of development, one that is not only larger in scale but higher in value; not only broader in markets but stronger in position; not only going further but moving more steadily, proactively, and with a clearer voice in the emerging global green and digital trade order,” Nguyen Minh Tien emphasized. This is considered a long-term yet achievable goal if Viet Nam continues to maintain momentum in reform and innovation across the agricultural sector.
