VDDMA, UNICEF and partners support flood-hit Dien Bien

(VAN) To help residents of Dien Bien overcome the aftermath of recent floods, VDDMA, in coordination with UNICEF and Acecook, has provided clean water, water purification tablets, and essential food supplies.

From the night of July 31 to the early morning of August 1, heavy rains triggered flash floods and severe landslides in multiple communes of Dien Bien province. As of August 2, the disasters had claimed 10 lives and injured 7 others. Numerous homes were swept away or submerged, and key roads in Xa Dung, Muong Luan, Na Bung, Muong Phang, and Tuan Giao were cut off.

The flooding caused significant damage to domestic water supply systems, with water sources heavily contaminated, posing high risks of disease outbreaks. In response to the emergency, on August 2, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in cooperation with UNICEF, provided 580 boxes of clean water and 16,600 Aquatabs water purification tablets to affected communities.

That same day, ACECOOK Vietnam Joint Stock Company, in collaboration with the VDDMA, donated 1,000 boxes of instant noodles to residents in four isolated communes with difficult access: Phinh Giang, Tia Dinh, Xa Dung, and Muong Luan.
