VAN News: Leading international outlet of agriculture and environment sector

(VAN) These meaningful messages from international partners affirm VAN News' increasingly solid standing.

Keeping up with the deep international integration trend, VAN News has been increasingly strengthened and has achieved many important milestones. Along this journey, we are honored to accompany reputable international partners, organizations, and diplomatic missions that share the same goal: promoting sustainable agricultural development, protecting the environment, and improving the quality of life for Vietnamese farmers.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment, we are pleased to present meaningful messages that reaffirm VAN’s growing position on the international stage.

Dr. Fred Unger - Former Regional Representative of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)

Warm congratulations to VAN News on its 80th anniversary. This is truly an impressive milestone.

ILRI and the VAN News began building their partnership in 2024. On the occasion of ILRI’s 50th anniversary in Hanoi, the two sides signed a MoU on cooperation. This event marked the first time ILRI established a strategic partnership with a media agency in the region and worldwide.

Since then, the two sides have maintained close exchanges, opening up many opportunities for collaboration and jointly organizing meaningful activities. You accompanied us in hosting the ILRI@50, the International One Health Scientific Conference, as well as two journalism training courses on food safety.

I believe that communication and the press serve as an indispensable bridge linking science, policy, and communities. The press helps shape public awareness, reinforce scientific evidence, and promote tangible changes in consumption, production, and the assurance of food and nutrition security.

VAN News can fully leverage its role as an ambassador of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Become a key information channel, build consumer trust, expand market access, and serve as a representative voice for farmers and the business community. In doing so, you will contribute to the broader goal of deep transformation toward a sustainable agri-food and climate system.

ILRI stands ready to continue expanding cooperation with the Newspaper in many areas. One promising domain where we can work together is in climate-change adaptation solutions and sustainable livestock development, which is also a strategic direction ILRI aims to support the Government of Viet Nam and the region.

As a researcher, I sincerely appreciate VAN for a partnership that, although still new, has already produced very positive results. I place great expectations on the strategic cooperation pathway between ILRI and VAN in the coming years.

Once again, I extend my best wishes to the VAN News on the journey ahead.

H.E. Hilde Solbakken - Norwegian Ambassador to Viet Nam

First of all, I would like to thank VAN News for your continuous companionship and timely coverage of the activities of the Norwegian Embassy in Viet Nam.

With an 80-year history, your team of editors, reporters, and staff possesses deep knowledge across the core fields of agriculture and environment, along with an extensive readership network nationwide.

In my view, specialized journalism plays an especially important role. VAN News has clearly demonstrated its position as the official mouthpiece of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, helping to highlight Viet Nam’s practical regulations, reforms, and initiatives such as carbon market development, biosecurity standards, sustainable aquaculture, waste management, and AI-based monitoring solutions.

Journalists have helped bridge policy with production realities and daily life, supporting people and businesses in better understanding, adapting to, and taking a more proactive role in the green transition. Conversely, the Newspaper has also contributed to promoting transparency and accountability by promptly reflecting the effectiveness of policy implementation by competent authorities.

As Viet Nam vigorously implements measures to achieve the SDGs, fulfill its commitments under the Paris Agreement, and reach Net Zero by 2050, the role of a specialized newspaper becomes even more critical. Journalism not only follows this transition closely but also helps address global core challenges: reducing emissions, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring food security.

Marking 80 years of accompanying the development of the agriculture and environment sectors, I wish the Newspaper continued success on its new journey, maintaining its role as a reliable and effective communication channel. I hold strong confidence and expectations for our increasingly close cooperation in the future.

Mr. Vinod Ahuja - Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Viet Nam

I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on the 80th anniversary of VAN News - a legacy founded and named Tac Dat Newspaper by President Ho Chi Minh.

Throughout Viet Nam’s development journey, the Newspaper has helped shape the way society perceives agricultural production and environmental protection. By providing information grounded in data, scientific evidence, and real-world stories, the Newspaper has strengthened policy dialogue, supported transparent decision-making, and promoted more sustainable practices across the entire agri-food system.

In my view, effective journalism is one that can translate major policies and complex scientific issues into information that is easy to understand and accessible to farmers, policymakers, and the general public.

As Viet Nam undergoes a strong agricultural transformation, communication becomes even more essential in linking scientific data with the policy-making process, while ensuring that farmers’ voices are heard.

As Viet Nam advances toward a greener and more climate-resilient economy, the VAN News will have even greater opportunities to affirm its crucial role in connecting science, policy, and practice. I look forward to seeing articles that continue to promote messages of innovation, tell stories from the fields, and explain policy priorities in a clear and practical manner.

In the next phase of development, the Newspaper can further strengthen its coverage of topics such as climate-resilient agriculture, food safety, sustainable value chains, innovation, and the carbon market. These are key areas in Viet Nam’s development pathway. Broad and in-depth communication will help citizens understand emerging trends and proactively prepare for the demands of a new era.

I believe that the Newspaper will remain an important piece in the inspiring landscape of Viet Nam’s green transition, contributing to action and spreading sustainable values.

Mr. Tran Nam Anh, Country Director of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in Viet Nam

Warmest congratulations to VAN News on its 80th anniversary.

For us, the Newspaper has long been ACIAR’s trusted communication partner in Viet Nam, helping connect researchers with farmers, businesses, and policymakers. Together with many Vietnamese media organizations, VAN News has played a key role in bringing practical perspectives to our research community.

Another important strength of the press lies in its ability to analyze and advocate for policy. In Viet Nam, the media plays an active role in conveying the Party’s and the State’s guidelines and policies. You hold a unique position in transforming scientific knowledge and evidence into messages that effectively reach policymakers.

For ACIAR, these strengths are highly meaningful and practical. Throughout more than 30 years of presence and collaboration with partners in Viet Nam, we have always valued our cooperation with the media in general, and with VAN News in particular. As the principal communication agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, you help ensure that our research outcomes reach farmers, businesses, and policymakers swiftly and effectively.

Recently, during the meeting with the high-level Vietnamese delegation to Australia led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, ACIAR reaffirmed its long-term commitment to cooperating with Viet Nam in supporting research that promotes sustainable agriculture and rural development, including climate-change response and environmental issues.

We firmly believe that the Newspaper will continue to grow stronger, more dynamic, and more reliable in sharing knowledge with diverse audiences, from administrators to farmers. Together, we can identify the most important research issues that align with Viet Nam’s development orientations and priorities, thereby contributing to a more enabling environment where farmers, businesses, researchers, and leaders can collaborate in a spirit of innovation toward a modern, efficient, and sustainable Vietnamese agriculture.

We wish the VAN News continued strong and dynamic development for many decades to come!

Tac Dat Newspaper was established by the Government on 4 December 1945, making it one of the first newspapers founded immediately after the country regained independence.

On 7 December 1945, Tac Dat published its first issue and was honored to have President Ho Chi Minh write an introduction and assign its mission.

On 1 March 2025, VAN News was established through the merger of the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper and the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper. The founding date of Tac Dat Newspaper (4 December 1945) was chosen as the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Agriculture and Environment Newspaper.
