The pig farming sector is currently facing mounting challenges, including increasingly complex disease outbreaks, rising input costs, stricter environmental regulations, and growing consumer demand for safe and traceable food products. In this context, circular livestock farming is no longer merely a technical solution but an essential development pathway for enhancing competitiveness and ensuring long-term sustainability.
On 8 May 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Sub-Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health and the Animal Husbandry Association of Viet Nam held a working session with Pham Truong Giang, Chief Executive Officer of Trang Linh Co., Ltd., to learn about the company's integrated pig farming model.
Trang Linh currently operates a large-scale circular farming system with a herd of approximately 3,600 breeding sowsand 42,000 market pigs. The farm uses high-performance breeding stock together with carefully controlled feeding regimes to improve reproductive performance, increase survival rates, and shorten production cycles.
A key strength of the Trang Linh model is its systematic investment in modern livestock housing, microclimate control, biosecurity, and animal welfare. The farm has been officially recognized as a high-tech agricultural enterprise, a designation that not only acknowledges its technological achievements but also provides further impetus for continued investment in innovation, environmental protection, and production management.

One of the distinguishing features of Trang Linh's farming model is the large-scale application of bio-bedding technology. According to Pham Truong Giang, Chief Executive Officer of Trang Linh Co., Ltd., the bio-bedding system has been successfully implemented over an extended period and has become a core solution for waste treatment, pollution reduction, and the production of raw materials for organic fertilizers.
At the heart of Trang Linh's circular economy model is the conversion of livestock by-products into value-added products. After each production cycle, the bio-bedding, containing manure, urine, and beneficial microorganisms, is collected and further processed into organic fertilizer. According to the company, the volume of post-production material can reach several hundred tonnes per month, providing a stable supply of feedstock for fertilizer manufacturing.
The organic fertilizer production process extends well beyond simple collection and composting. The company carries out high-temperature composting, maintaining core temperatures of approximately 40-60°C to eliminate pathogens, while incorporating heat-tolerant microbial strains capable of enhancing nutrient stabilization. Some of the microbial strains used in the fertilizer are sourced from research institutes, while others have been developed and cultured in-house by the company.

According to Pham Truong Giang, the company's market pigs are highly regarded for their meat quality, carcass grading performance, and ability to meet stringent quality control requirements. A portion of the company's output is supplied to major buyers, where products are subject to rigorous quality inspections and performance assessments before delivery.
Notably, the circular economy model generates not only environmental benefits but also tangible financial returns. Organic fertilizer produced from the farm's bio-bedding system helps offset a significant share of operating expenses, including labor costs. This demonstrates that environmental protection does not necessarily impose an additional financial burden when businesses are able to develop efficient and integrated value chains.
Trang Linh's experience extends beyond the success of a single livestock enterprise. It offers valuable insights for the green transformation of Viet Nam's livestock sector. When livestock by-products are effectively recycled, waste is transformed into a resource, environmental impacts are minimized, and the quality of agricultural products is enhanced. In this way, the circular economy can serve as the foundation for a more sustainable, safe, and responsible livestock industry.
