The export of tea to China has seen strong growth in the first 4 months of the year.

According to the General Department of Customs (Ministry of Industry and Trade), tea exports to China have surged significantly in the first 4 months of 2024, reaching 3.1 thousand tons, worth $ 4.4 million, an increase of 173.6% in volume and 42.4% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

Thus, among Vietnam's largest tea export markets, China has experienced the strongest growth. Additionally, some other markets have also achieved high growth rates in the first 4 months of the year, including Indonesia (increasing by 64.5% in volume and 61.7% in value), the United States (up by 61.2% in volume and 67.6% in value), and Malaysia (rising by 51.1% in volume and 45.3% in value).

However, tea exports to the largest market, Pakistan, have declined. In the first 4 months of the year, tea exports to Pakistan reached 9,761 tons, valued at $ 19.5 million, down by 9.2% in volume and 0.1% in value.

According to the Department of African, Western and Southern Asian Markets (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Pakistan is Vietnam's largest tea market, but Vietnam's market share in Pakistan remains low. Information from the Pakistan Tea Association shows that in the first 4 months of this year, Vietnamese tea accounted for only 0.9% of Pakistan's total tea imports. In terms of value, Vietnam's market share is slightly higher, at 3.6%.

Due to various barriers, especially the lack of market information, Vietnamese tea enterprises still find it difficult to access and secure large orders with Pakistani enterprises.

Despite the decline in tea exports to Pakistan, the strong growth in markets such as China, Indonesia, the United States, Malaysia,..., has resulted in a rapid increase in both volume and value of tea exports in the first 4 months of 2024. Overall, in the first 4 months of 2024, tea exports reached 36.7 thousand tons, valued at $ 60.3 million, up by 25.1% in volume and 23.6% in value compared to the same period in 2023.
