In Soc Trang, the Deputy Minister recognized the state of the aquaculture industry in 2021, a year in which the shrimp industry continued to face many difficulties. Challenges created due to abnormal weather and climate impacts, especially the consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic have caused damage in many localities throughout the country. However, under the care of the Prime Minister, leaders of MARD, ministries, branches and localities have joined hands to resolve the difficulties and obstacles, achieving great results for the shrimp industries. Shrimp production of all kinds reached 970,000 tons, up 4.3% over the same session of 2020. Particularly, brackish water shrimp production reached 930,000 tons.

The country's shrimp exports reached USD 3.9 billion in 2021, up 5,4% over 2020. Including the two provinces of Soc Trang and Ca Mau, which contributed over USD 2 billion to export turnover. The Deputy Minister directed that in the context of the newly developing situation, although our country has a large shrimp farming area, the achieved productivity and output are still limited. Farming areas still faced many challenges in terms of infrastructure conditions, breeds and environment…

In 2022, in order to achieve the goal of export turnover exceeding USD 4 billion, specialized agencies under MARD and localities need to identify existing difficulties and problems. The Conference will analyze the challenges, the Ministry will acknowledge comments and opinions, share experiences, manage and improve the quality of shrimp breeds. Determine solutions to reduce production costs of farmed shrimp, investment in infrastructures of farming areas, technological resolutions for extensive shrimp farming areas...in order for the shrimp industry to shift towards sustainable development.

On the same day, at the conference of the Directorate of Fisheries with provinces owning shrimp farming areas, a regulation on coordination in the management of brackish water shrimp breeds in 2022 was signed.
