From the beginning of the month until now, the price of Thai jackfruit in many localities in the Mekong Delta such as Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Can Tho City, and Soc Trang has continuously increased sharply.

Currently, Thai jackfruit type 1 is purchased by traders at the garden for VND 30,000 - 33,000/kg (standard export type, weighing over 9kg/fruit). , Type 2 is purchased from VND 25,000 - 28,000/kg, and Type 3 is purchased from VND 15,000 - 18,000/kg, doubling in price compared to the same period in 2022 and 2023.

According to a gardener in the Tra On district (Vinh Long), in contrast to this time a few years ago, the price of Thai jackfruit was only around VND 10,000 - 15,000/kg. Sometimes traders don't even come to make purchases, but this year the increase is quite high. If any farmer harvests the jackfruit right now, at a selling price of VND 30,000/kg, they will earn a profit of over VND 400 million/ha.

According to some traders, currently, the jackfruit output purchased is not enough to supply export businesses because demand is high, and at this time it is not yet the full harvest season.

Ms. Le Thi Truc Linh, Deputy Head of the Department of MARD of Tra On district said, the entire district currently has about 200 ha of jackfruit growing land and is likely to continue to increase due to the recent red-fleshed jackfruit planting movement.

She also advised people to be careful in investing in massive planting. Supply exceeding demand can easily lead to shortages in the market and prices will decrease. People should stabilize the area planted with fruit trees, and avoid switching to the planting-cutting trend when they see agricultural product prices suddenly increase.

At the same time, she encourages people to grow clean agricultural products and use organic fertilizers so that the products have high value. Before changing crops, farmers should clearly understand production costs, growing techniques and product quality...
