Vietnam stands firm as one of Australia’s top fruit suppliers

According to a recent report from the International Trade Center (ITC), in the 11 months of 2022, Australia imported the most fruits with HS code 081090 (fresh tamarind, jackfruit, litchi, plum, passion fruit, star fruit) from Vietnam, reaching USD 4.4i million, up 22.3% compared to the same period in 2021.

Imports from Vietnam accounted for 53% of the total value of Australia's HS code 081090 imports, up 8.3 percentage points over the same period last year. It should be noted that Vietnam is also the only supplier of fresh lychee to Australia, affirming the monopoly position at the moment.

In the 2017 - 2021 period, Australia's imports of HS code 081090 agro-product group (fresh tamarind, apple, jackfruit, lychee, plum, passion fruit and star fruit) increases by an average of 11.6% per year, reaching an average of USD 7.7 million per year.

Particularly in 2021 Australia's imports of fruit with HS code 081090 reached USD 8.8 million, down 6.8% compared to 2020, but up 50.8% compared to 2017. And in the 11 months of 2022, Australia's imports of fruits from this group reached USD 8.2 million, up 3.1% in comparison to the same period in 2021.
