Technology builds green rubber: Pioneering in applying digital technology

(VAN) Digital transformation has helped Dong Nai Rubber Corporation manage gardens, trace the origin, and strengthen its competitiveness in international markets.

Instead of bulky notebooks or cumbersome paper maps as before, Mr. Hoang Bao Luan, Deputy Head of the Technical Management Department at Dong Nai Rubber Corporation, now only needs a smartphone. With just a few taps on the corporation's internal application, all information is displayed clearly and intuitively on the digital map, from planting year, tree density, and pest status to average latex yield. All data are updated in real time, making management easier and more accurate.

Since the implementation of digital transformation in managing gardens, the corporation has entirely changed its method of production monitoring. The GIS system, integrating satellite imagery with data updated by field workers, allows detailed tracking of each rubber plot. "In the past, on-site inspections took several days; now, leaders can access all necessary information simply through a smartphone," emphasized Mr. Luan.

The Mobile App, developed by Dong Nai Rubber Corporation for both iOS and Android, integrates the entire care process, from replanting, new planting, fertilization, and pest control to harvesting. Workers input data directly after each stage, and the system automatically consolidates, displays progress, and even sends reminders for scheduled care or harvesting.

"Remarkably, all data are synchronized to the central system. Managers at production teams or the corporation level can instantly monitor operations. If the system detects anomalies such as decreased productivity or increased pest incidence, it will issue alerts for timely intervention," Mr. Luan explained.

This transformation not only enhances management efficiency but also enables the corporation to meet the strict requirements of international markets. In response to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which will take effect in 2026, Dong Nai Rubber Corporation has fully digitized its plantation maps, clearly identifying the origin of each land plot. The DNRC-Traceability software, developed entirely by the in-house team of engineers and registered for copyright under the authorship of Mr. Hoang Bao Luan, allows traceability of the entire product journey.

"By simply scanning a code, customers can immediately see which worker tapped the latex, on what date, how it was transported, which factory processed it, how long it was stored, and even the harvest contract details. This serves as clear evidence of the product’s transparency and legality," Mr. Luan proudly stated.

According to Mr. Luan, the system not only complies with international regulations but also enables centralized management, effective analysis, productivity forecasting, and production optimization. Thus, the leadership makes timely decisions, builds stronger trust with partners, and affirms Dong Nai Rubber Corporation’s pioneering position in applying digital technology.

Mr. Chu Dang Khoa, Deputy General Director of Dong Nai Rubber Corporation, emphasized that digital transformation is the key to enhancing competitiveness. He explained, "Markets are increasingly demanding in terms of transparency and sustainability. Only through comprehensive digitalization can enterprises be capable of meeting such demands, especially when entering demanding markets like the EU."

"In July 2024, Dong Nai Rubber Corporation successfully exported its first shipment to the EU, which cleared customs smoothly thanks to the standardized traceability system. To date, more than 2,000 tons of products have been exported to this market, generating a significant increase in profits and providing a clear advantage over non-digitized products," Mr. Khoa said.

Realizing the green development strategy

Beyond plantation management, Dong Nai Rubber Corporation is accelerating digitalization across its processing factories. Each production line is equipped with  sensors to automatically monitor humidity, temperature, and odor emissions. Automated packaging equipment and a mobile-based monitoring system allow production shift management, ensure occupational safety, and protect the environment.

"We are moving toward a smart factory model where every process can be monitored remotely. As a result, labor productivity increases, product quality remains stable, and costs are significantly reduced," Mr. Chu Dang Khoa emphasized.

According to Mr. Khoa, digital transformation is not the ultimate goal but rather a tool for Dong Nai Rubber Corporation to realize its green and sustainable development strategy. All data collected from gardens and factories help the enterprise optimize its production processes, reduce the use of fertilizers and chemicals, and minimize environmental emissions.

In addition, the R&D Department of Dong Nai Rubber Corporation is researching a range of eco-friendly auxiliary products such as organic fertilizers, pesticides, stimulant oil, and mosquito-repellent incense. These products not only serve internal operations but are also supplied to the market. The corporation’s digital management system ensures strict control over material usage, prevents waste, and guarantees compliance with international standards.

Particularly, the application of GIS technology combined with global satellite data allows the corporation to verify that its planting areas have remained stable and have not encroached upon natural forests since 2020. This serves as crucial evidence for meeting EUDR requirements and affirms the corporation’s commitment to environmental protection.

Dong Nai Rubber Corporation's goal is sustainable development based on three economic, social, and environmental pillars. Digital transformation is the thread connecting these pillars. Transparent data builds worker confidence, strengthens customer trust, and protects the environment.

From lush green rubber forests to modern processing plants, the digital transformation journey of Dong Nai Rubber Corporation is opening new opportunities for Vietnam''s rubber industry, not only enhancing productivity and product value but also reinforcing the brand’s position in international markets, moving toward a sustainable, transparent, and globally integrated future.
