South Korean enterprise invests in processing plant in Can Tho

(VAN) Agricultural and aquatic products of Can Tho City will increase in value and gain wider access to the South Korean market.

On June 2, the Can Tho City Cooperative Alliance and Dawon Food Service signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a program to strengthen the competitiveness of agricultural and aquatic products in southern Viet Nam, as well as a project to build an agricultural and seafood processing plant in Can Tho.

Dawon Food Service is a company with more than 20 years of experience in the food production sector, providing meal services to partners in many countries worldwide.

According to the cooperation agreement, the enterprise will implement a program to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products, and will also invest in a project to build an agricultural and seafood processing plant in Can Tho.

The project is expected to be implemented in Vi Thanh Ward and surrounding areas. Dawon Food Service will build a production facility that meets Korean standards and is a certified processing plant model.

The plant will be capable of processing and distributing agricultural and aquatic products cultivated and produced according to Korean processes and technology. The output products will be purchased by Dawon Food Service together with other Korean enterprises participating in the project.

On the side of the Can Tho City Cooperative Alliance, the organization will participate in operating the program to enhance the competitiveness of agricultural and aquatic products in Can Tho and surrounding areas. It will also coordinate with cooperatives, cooperative unions, farmer groups, and farmers to supply agricultural and aquatic products to Korean partners.

Mr. Vo Minh Canh, Chairman of the Can Tho City Cooperative Alliance, said that to increase value added and promote sustainable development, cooperatives greatly need the support of enterprises with strong capabilities in processing technology, distribution systems, and export markets.

As of the end of May 2026, Can Tho City has 889 cooperatives, of which 655 are agricultural, accounting for nearly 73% of the city’s total.

Through this cooperation program, Mr. Vo Minh Canh hopes that the city’s agricultural and aquatic products will gain more stable market outlets. In particular, cooperatives will have opportunities to improve governance capacity and quality standards, gradually integrating more deeply into global supply chains.

The city is committed to continuing to create the most favorable conditions for cooperatives, businesses, and international partners to strengthen connections, expand investment, apply science and technology, and undergo digital transformation. This will help develop standardized raw material areas, build brands, and enhance the competitiveness of local agricultural products.

According to Mr. Park Jong Woog, based on field research, Can Tho City has favorable conditions and strong potential for implementing the agricultural and seafood processing plant project.

The project is expected to help bring agricultural and aquatic products from the Mekong Delta, in general, and from Can Tho, in particular, closer to Korean consumers through processing activities.

As the center of the Mekong Delta region, Can Tho currently contributes more than 50% of Vietnam's rice production, approximately 65% of its aquaculture production, and nearly 90% of its rice exports.

The city possesses significant potential for development in high-tech agriculture, food processing, logistics, and agricultural exports.

Recognizing this importance, Can Tho has always identified the development of the collective economy and cooperatives as a strategic task to effectively implement the Party's policy on the development of agriculture, farmers, and rural areas.

In the near future, Dawon Food Service will develop specific investment plans for each component of the project and call for greater participation and cooperation from additional Korean enterprises.

Dawon Food will organize intensive technical training programs to help farmers standardize their farming processes from the outset; and will also be responsible for purchasing, processing, further processing, and distributing the products.

“The raw materials, after being purchased, will be processed and prepared systematically for export to South Korea and international markets. Currently, Dawon Food's revenue in the US market is approximately $15 million per year. Through this strategic cooperation project, we expect to expand our scale and double our global revenue in the near future,” Mr. Park Jong Wook shared.
