On August 23, at the Western Sea Dyke in Khanh Binh Tay commune, Tran Van Thoi district (Ca Mau), the Resource and Environment Communication Center (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) coordinated with the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union, Unilever Vietnam, and the OMO brand to organize the "Action for a Green Vietnam" tree-planting program for 2024.

The "Action for a Green Vietnam" program involves planting trees in protective forests, production forests, and more, across provinces and cities nationwide as part of the activities supporting the campaign to plant 1 billion trees during the 2021-2025 period initiated by the Prime Minister.

The program aims to enhance biodiversity conservation, mangrove ecosystem protection, erosion and storm prevention, provide natural products, improve livelihoods for communities, and successfully implement Ca Mau province's plan to strengthen the planting and restoration of mangrove forests.

Mr Tran Dang Khoa, Deputy Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union, stated that the "Action for a Green Vietnam" program aims to raise awareness and responsibility among party committees, authorities, communities, and residents regarding forest development and tree planting. It focuses on enhancing the quality and value of forest ecosystems. This initiative is a meaningful and practical effort by the youth to protect and develop forests, which are crucial for the natural environment and ecology. By planting and protecting forests, the program ensures sustainable development, maintains natural resources, mitigates the impacts of climate change, and contributes to the sustainable growth of the environment.

Mr Vu Minh Ly, Deputy Director of the Center for Environmental and Natural Resources Communication (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), noted: "This is a Community-driven Program that contributes to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, erosion control, coastal area protection, and reducing the adverse effects of climate change. It encourages the community to take specific, practical actions in tree planting".

The tree-planting program 'Action for a Green Vietnam' has successfully planted over 690,000 trees and sowed 60,000 seed balls across 19 provinces, cities, and 9 national parks nationwide. Photo: Trong Linh.

“With the slogan 'Action for a Green Vietnam,' I hope and urge that from now on, every agency, organization, and individual join hands in planting more trees so that this movement can spread and develop across the country, contributing significantly to building a green - clean - beautiful nation,” stated Vu Minh Ly.

To date, this program has planted more than 690,000 trees and sowed 60,000 seed balls in 19 provinces and cities and 9 national parks nationwide. This effort plays a crucial role in preserving water sources, preventing erosion and landslides, increasing forest cover, and creating green lungs that filter dust and improve air quality positively. Simultaneously, it contributes to environmental protection, local economic and social development, improving people's quality of life, and the sustainable development of the country.

Mr Shawn Tan, Laundry Category Director of Unilever Vietnam, shared: "Unilever Vietnam, through the OMO brand, donates 120,000 trees to the Cà Mau Provincial Youth Union, embodying our belief in a greener life, economic and social development for the local people, and our commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development."

Mangrove forests are likened to an indispensable “green lung” that ensures the development of coastal ecosystems. This area also holds significant value in terms of economy, society, national defence and security, environmental ecology, and biodiversity conservation. However, in recent years, the negative impacts of natural factors such as waves, winds, and storms, coupled with uncontrolled human activities such as construction, exploitation, and aquaculture, have led to a severe decline in mangrove forest areas across the country. This decline has had adverse effects on climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, and the emergence of diseases...
