Global coffee prices today declined slightly on the London exchange but continued to rise on the New York exchange.
On May 6, Brazil’s National Supply Company (Conab) raised its coffee production forecast for 2025 to 55.7 million bags (each bag weighing 60 kg), marking a 7.5% increase compared to the previous projection of 51.81 million bags released in January 2025.
This updated forecast is also 2.7% higher than the 2024 crop and represents the highest-ever volume for an “off-year” in Brazil’s biennial arabica production cycle.
Meanwhile, open interest volume dropped by more than 18.3%, from 176,927 contracts on March 31 to 144,530 contracts as of April 21, due to the rollover of futures from May to July. Profit-taking is likely the main reason behind the decline in open interest.
