Implementing Resolution 51/2021/NQ-HDND dated December 16, 2021 of the People's Council of Ha Tinh province on policies to encourage agricultural and rural development in association with building the province to meet new rural standards in the period 2022 - 2025 , Ha Tinh Agricultural Extension Center has developed a process for selecting male deer to contribute to improving the quality and value of deer antler products.
The specialized sector has investigated and collected information on the livestock production situation; survey and select male deer herds in 7 communes Son Lam, Son Giang, Quang Diem, Son Le, Son Trung, Kim Hoa and Son Chau in Huong Son district.
During the survey and selection process, the mission has also learned information about the deer breeding process such as: Time of inbreeding, average time between matings, efficiency of inbreeding, participation in training on techniques husbandry techniques, breeding methods, barns, sources of food, drinking water and disease prevention and control...
Scoring and selection process, the male deer are calculated according to clear and independent criteria among the mission members, then the average scores of the members are summed up and the male deer are selected from the highest score to the lowest.
As a result, there were 155 male deer eligible for selection in 7 localities, of which 100 deer met the standards for breeding. This is the basis for replicating the herd of deer with a clear breed origin, with an exploiting velvet yield of 1.2kg/head/year or more. Each deer that meets the standards for breeding will receive a support policy of VND 2 million.
