The golden pompano model opens up a new direction for aquaculture farmers in the coastal areas of Quang Tri province. Photo: Viet Toan.
Receiving financial support from the provincial Department of Science and Technology, Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center has carried out a pilot production project, building an intensive farming model of golden pompano in the VietGAP direction associated with product consumption.
The deployed model’s aim is to diversify the brackish-salt water farming subjects in coastal areas to ensure sustainability and high economic efficiency. The model is implemented in Thuan Dau village, Hai An commune, Hai Lang district (Quang Tri).
The production scale of the trial project is 4,000 m². Deploying the model, Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center supports farmers to release 12,000 fingerlings weighing approximately 3 g/fish (300 fishes/kg). After 20 days of rearing, the fish weight reached 10 g/fish (100 fish/kg).
The VietGAP-oriented farming procedure helps farmers change their perception of sustainable aquaculture and realize the practical benefits, which are a visible decrease in the cost of feed, chemicals and labor, lower risks of disease outbreak and environmental pollution, an increase in golden pompano’s survival rate, and shorter rearing time and higher product quality, easier to consume products.
