The Hue City People's Committee announced that the city was recently awarded the title of “National Winner - One Planet City Challenge 2026” (National Green City) by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) under the global One Planet City Challenge 2026. The title recognizes the locality's outstanding efforts in responding to climate change and promoting sustainable urban development.
According to the WWF's assessment, Hue City was recognized for its progressive urban development vision, clear and highly feasible climate action plan and emission reduction orientation aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
In addition, the city's climate change adaptation solutions were built upon practical risk assessments, aiming to enhance urban resilience against the impacts of natural disasters and extreme weather.

The WWF also highly appreciated the participation and companionship of agencies, organizations, businesses, and the community in formulating policies and solutions for green, low-emission urban development. This ensures harmony between economic growth, environmental protection and improving citizens' quality of life.
According to the Hue City People's Committee, the "National Green City" title is not only a recognition of the city's efforts in building a green, smart, and eco-friendly urban area but also affirms the locality's pioneering role in achieving sustainable development goals and global climate action.
In the coming time, Hue City will continue to implement sustainable urban development solutions, promote green transition, increase the application of science and technology and enhance climate change adaptation capacity. The goal is to build Hue into a distinctive heritage city, centrally governed, towards a green, clean, bright and sustainable development path.
Currently, Hue City possesses over 67,000 street trees of dozens of species, exceeding the green space standards for a class-1 city and standing as the city with the highest tree density in the country. Hue was also voted an "ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City" and was honored by the WWF as Vietnam's first "National Green City" (in 2016).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Cong Tin, Dean of the Faculty of Environment (University of Sciences, Hue University), commented that the green space in Hue is evident through heritage tree lines, shady street trees, pedestrian streets along the Huong River, and the green living movement (Green Sunday). Concurrently, it comprehensively expands into the city's entire ecological space.
"From the Bach Ma forest, part of the Truong Son range, to the vast Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system, Hue is creating a harmonious connection between the urban area and nature in a sustainable entirety. Preserving urban greenery, responding to climate change, conserving forest and lagoon resources, and smartly exploiting eco-tourism will be the keys to green development for Hue in the future", mr. Tin stated.
