In recent days, prolonged heavy rain and flash floods have inundated large areas, isolating communities, disrupting transport, and forcing many medical facilities to suspend operations.
Facing the threat of unsafe drinking water and disease outbreaks, WHO has supplied 852,000 Aquatabs, enough to purify around 13 million litres of clean water, along with 900 large water containers to the hardest-hit provinces of Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai and Ninh Binh.

On its official Facebook page, WHO Vietnam wrote: “This supply of clean water will help health care facilities maintain operations and ensure that affected communities have access to safe drinking water while waiting for water systems to be restored.
WHO expresses its deepest sympathy for the immense losses and hardships endured by people in the affected areas. We remain committed to standing alongside the Government and the people of Viet Nam in the recovery efforts, in every way we can”.
The supplies are being distributed to district hospitals, commune health stations, and households cut off by flooding.
Health experts warn that after floods, contaminated water can lead to outbreaks of infectious diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis A. Therefore, providing clean water is not only a humanitarian intervention but also a critical public-health measure to prevent disease and protect community health during post-disaster recovery.
