The agricultural sector has grown impressively, and fisheries sector is a ‘bright star’

On the morning of February 5, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien and the delegation had a working trip at Quynh Phuong Fishing Port (Hoang Mai town, Nghe An), and encouraged fishermen to confidently cling to the sea.

Overall assessment, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that institutions, infrastructure, and high-quality human resources of the fisheries sector still have limitation. Besides the impact of the pandemic, the huge loss after fishering is really a pity. Processing and deep processing work is still rudimentary, enterprises have little participation, and in small scale, etc.

The barriers posed are not small, but with the attention of the Party, National Assembly and Government, the entire agricultural sector in general, especially fisheries in particular, has made a spectacular breakthrough. The production indicators exploitation (3.92 million tons, up 0.9% compared to 2020), aquaculture (4.81 million tons, up 1%), export (US$ 8.89 billion), etc, are very impressive. Thereby, the sector has made an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, especially in the context of being severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The year 2021 ends with very positive results, this is also the first year of implementing the Resolution of the XIII Congress, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has actively coordinated closely with ministries, sectors, provinces and related agencies in implementing the plan from the first day, first week, first month.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciates the efforts of Nghe An, the province with the highest and most stable growth in 2021. Particularly in the fisheries sector, in the past time, it has always received the attention of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Councils, People's Committees of the province and departments, thereby creating a premise for a breakthrough," said Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien.

On the local side, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee shared: "The past year was extremely hard, the Covid-19 pandemic forced 125,000 workers returning to their hometown, creating big pressure on socio economic for the province.

However, with the close attention of the Central and the Government, the province has actively developed a response plan, gradually trying to remove difficulties and obstacles, until now, the life of the the people is basically stable.

In the general picture, agriculture is the bright spot, making an important contribution to stabilizing the social situation. Agriculture makes a bold impression, in which seafood is the “brightest star” of the industry”.

In 2022, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that there are still many difficulties and challenges. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will join with localities, including Nghe An, a key province in agriculture, to drastically implement appropriate plans to promote comprehensive development, from cultivation, forestry, fisheries to animal husbandry”.
