Ninh Binh has 544 Ha of summer rice destroyed by the Typhoon

In Yen Mo and Nho Quan districts (Ninh Binh province), local farmers are urgently going to their fields to prop up and tie the summer rice crops that have been knocked down by the typhoon. They are also harvesting areas that are nearly ripe but at risk of waterlogging.

Mr. Dinh Van Khiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Binh province, reported that for the 2024 summer crop, the entire province planted more than 31,000 ha of rice. The aftermath of Typhoon No. 3 has caused 544 ha of rice to be flattened, including 178 ha of rice nearing maturity in the Yen Mo district and 366 ha in the Nho Quan district.

However, these affected areas are not of major concern as the rainfall was low. With the storm’s landfall warnings, local authorities directed the drainage of irrigation systems and the removal of excess water, so the water level in the fields is not high and the rice is not submerged.

Farmers only need to prop up and tie the rice, and once the sun comes out, they can harvest. In areas with high water levels, farmers have proactively pumped out excess water and mobilized labour for manual harvesting, following the principle of "harvesting the green at home is better than letting it age in the field" when harvesting machines are not yet able to get down to fields.
