Releasing 11 Javan pangolins and 3 small-clawed otter individuals

Recently, Save Vietnam's Wildlife (SVW), in collaboration with Cuc Phuong National Park, Cat Tien National Park, and the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center, successfully reintroduced 11 Javan pangolin individuals, 3 small-clawed otter individuals, along with 4 pig-tailed macaques, 2 long-tailed macaques, and 1 red-headed vulture back into their natural habitat.

These wild animals were successfully rescued from illegal trafficking, captivity, and voluntary surrender by local residents. SVW directly participated in the rehabilitation of 5 Javan pangolin individuals and 3 otters.

Upon arrival at the rescue centre, all individuals underwent a 30-day quarantine period to monitor their health and recovery process. They were then gradually acclimatized to the natural environment in the semi-wild enclosure before being reintroduced.

Both the Java mouse-deer and the small fishing cat are categorized under Group IB of endangered and precious species facing the risk of extinction, requiring strict prohibition of exploitation and use for commercial purposes according to Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP (amended and supplemented by Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP).

All related violations can be prosecuted criminally or fined administratively, depending on the number of individuals and the value (in monetary terms) of the products or the recurrence of offences. However, illegal hunting and trafficking activities continue to pose a complex challenge.

Since its establishment, the Wildlife Conservation Center has successfully rescued 4,280 wild animal individuals. Over 70% of these animals have been rehabilitated and successfully reintroduced into their natural habitats, contributing to efforts to conserve wildlife and biodiversity in Vietnam.
