On May 14, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province announced that it had initiated legal proceedings against two individuals for violating regulations on the management and protection of endangered, precious, and rare animals.
Earlier, on May 5, the Economic Police Department of Quang Nam Province caught T.V.Q (residing in Son Vien commune, Nong Son district, Quang Nam) in the act of purchasing two live, injured Java pangolins, an endangered and precious species.
Through investigation, authorities determined that T.V.Q had bought the two Java pangolins from N.P.L (residing in Binh Nguyen commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam). Immediately following this, the Economic Police Department issued an emergency detention order and seized all related evidence.
The Java pangolin, scientifically known as Manis javanica, is listed under Group IB, Appendix I of the category of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals prioritized for protection. The Economic Police Department coordinated with the Center for Rescue, Conservation, and Development of Creatures - Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Bình Province) to transfer the two Java pangolins to Cuc Phuong National Park for care and conservation as per regulations.
