Agricultural sector in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has been focusing on the processing of “clean coffee” to meet its target of improving agricultural product quality.

The sector set out the target of improving product quality in a context that the price of Robusta coffee with buckets in the domestic market stands at a low level thus product quality needs to be paid more attention.

To achieve the above target, Lam Dong has been prioritizing the processing of “clean coffee” considering it as one of the key solutions to increase the coffee value at the same time boost the whole sector's development.

As “clean coffee” production is regarded as a solution to increase the value of Lam Dong coffee beans in the market, it has been strongly supported by many business enterprises, individuals, and organisations in the province thus it has attracted much of their participation.

Doan Manh Trinh from Tam Trinh Coffee Import-Export Ltd Company in the Gia Lam Commune, Lam Ha District, said his company currently had a total of about 2,300 sq.m of workshops, with processing capacity reaching 12 tons per hour.

Investment in infrastructure was guaranteed to help the company enhance the production and business development of clean coffee and high-standard coffee supplied for the market.

In addition to its own coffee area and with stable output, the company also associated with over 400 local farmers to build a chain of clean coffee production, Trinh said.

The positive effect had really made farmers feel secure while investing in and developing production, according Trinh.

To boot the development of the coffee preliminary processing industry, Lam Dong Province’s agriculture sector has had taken solutions to help local farmers and businesses apply scientific and technical advances into the production so that to stabilize material output quality supplied to coffee processing factories.

Through that, many models of coffee production and consumption have been formed.

Currently, in Lam Dong Province, there are about 20 coffee production chains making up a total area of over 18,960 hectares, attracting the participation of nearly 9,200 households.

Reality shows that the value of 1kg of coffee products has increased by between 3 and 6 times after being roasted and processed.

With such a positive effect, Lam Dong's agricultural sector is continuing to focus on implementing many solutions to promote agricultural processing activities in general and coffee processing, in particular.

This is the key factor to help increase the value of Lam Dong coffee beans in the domestic and foreign markets, the authority has said.
