Mr. Le Manh Hung, Chairman of Petrovietnam's Board of Directors, said that the world and Vietnam are facing a situation of severe drought and prolonged heat, causing water sources to dry up in many places and severely affecting the environment and crops. , domestic water of people in many localities, including Ca Mau province.

In the current context of climate change, one of the most sustainable and practical solutions that communities need to do immediately is to plant and restore forests on wetlands.

"By its actions, Petrovietnam affirms its awareness of protecting the ecological environment and natural landscape and limiting the negative effects of climate change, contributing to the whole country achieving its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050," Mr. Hung said.

In 2022, Petrovietnam mobilized all employees and oil and gas workers to plant 3 million trees on projects and localities with oil and gas activities in 2022-2025.

In the past two years, member units under Petrovietnam have planted and cared for 615,135 trees. Typically, Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation (PVEP) coordinated to plant more than 260,000 trees on 76ha forests in Ca Mau, Thai Binh, Nghe An; Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) supported 100,000 casuarina trees and accompanying materials to move to the Truong Sa archipelago in the "Greening Truong Sa" program; Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company (BSR) committed to planting 1 million trees in the province with Quang Ngai province;...

Petrovietnam determined that 2024 is an important year to accelerate the achievement of goals.

With the theme "Restoring forests on wetlands," Petrovietnam leaders asked units to coordinate with localities to participate in planting, greening, and restoring planted forests on mangrove and flooded lands in the provinces with oil and gas activities, ensuring the dual goal of completing the planting of 3 million trees by 2025 and quantifying the reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment, as a basis to anticipate the trend of exemption and reduction of environmental taxes/fees. In addition, units review and develop plans and solutions to complete allocation targets in 2024 and 2025.

On this occasion, the Petrovietnam delegation also attended the inauguration ceremony of the Route 87 bridge at Hamlet 2, Khanh Binh Tay Bac commune, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province. The total cost of bridge construction is more than VND 500 million from funding from Petrovietnam.

The just completed bridge is one of 6 rural traffic projects supported by Petrovietnam for Ca Mau province in 2022-2023, with a total cost of 5 billion VND. Petrovietnam also awarded 20 scholarships worth 1 million VND to students in Khanh Binh commune in the Northwest to encourage their academic spirit.
