Attending the conference were representatives from the Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; the Anti-Counterfeit Stamp and Materials Center under the Ministry of Public Security; leaders of professional divisions under the Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Environment; representatives of local authorities, economic divisions, and agricultural extension officers from Ea Drang, Ea Hiao, Ea Wy, Ea Khal, and Ea H’Leo communes, along with businesses, cooperatives, and durian production groups operating in the province.
Dak Lak is currently one of Viet Nam’s leading localities in terms of durian cultivation area and output. Ea Drang commune alone has around 970 hectares of durian plantations. Many durian growing areas in the province have already been granted planting area codes for export purposes.
However, as markets increasingly tighten requirements on quality, food safety, and product origin transparency, the establishment of a traceability system has been identified as an important solution to enhance the value and competitiveness of the local durian sector.
At the conference, delegates discussed solutions for applying digital technology in the management of growing areas, production processes, packaging, transportation, and product distribution. The key focus was on standardizing growing-area data and establishing a unified traceability system to ensure transparent, complete, and accurate product information.
Participants agreed that implementing traceability would not only support state management but also help improve product credibility, strengthen consumer and partner confidence, and expand markets in a sustainable manner.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tin, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science and Technology, emphasized that the pilot traceability initiative goes beyond technical requirements for export purposes and serves as a foundational solution for restructuring management methods and elevating the value of the durian industry.
According to Mr. Tin, by digitizing and ensuring transparency throughout the entire information chain, from growing areas and production processes to distribution, Dak Lak durian products will gradually be positioned as professional, modern, and reliably traceable. This will not only help consumers and partners easily verify product origin and quality, but also strengthen market confidence, create room for higher added value, and support the sustainable development of the local durian brand amid deeper international integration.
Representing the Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Director Dang Thi Thuy, stated that the province is focusing on accelerating comprehensive digital transformation in agriculture and environmental management, prioritizing key export-oriented commodities such as durian.
“The implementation of this pilot traceability initiative is not only a concrete step in the roadmap toward digitalizing production, but also plays a role in establishing an important data foundation for management, monitoring, and market connectivity. Based on the pilot results, Dak Lak province will assess and refine the model before gradually expanding it province-wide, with the goal of building a transparent, modern, and sustainable agricultural sector,” Ms. Thuy emphasized.

Following the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology; Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Environment; and other delegates conducted a field visit to the growing area of Tay Nguyen Fruit Agricultural Cooperative in Ea Drang commune. The pilot implementation of durian traceability in Dak Lak has been identified as an important step in the roadmap toward building a transparent, modern, and sustainable agricultural sector. This is not only a technical solution aimed at meeting increasingly stringent market standards, but also contributes to improving the management system through digitalization, enhancing quality control capacity, and strengthening product information traceability.
In doing so, the initiative is expected to gradually increase the value of local agricultural products, reinforce consumer and partner confidence, and enhance the competitiveness of the durian industry in both domestic and international markets.
