According to the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), it is expected that in 2021, the total production volume of longan across the country will reach 637,000 tons, an increase of about 8% in comparison to 2020.

In the Southern region, longan output is estimated at 337,000 tons, up about 4% compared to 2020 (324,000 tons). In which, the harvested output in the first six months of the year is estimated at 60,000 tons (47.5%). The harvested output in the last six months has the possibility to reach about 177,000 tons (52.5%).

In the Northern region, the output is estimated at 300,000 tons, up more than 13% compared to 2020 (265,000 tons). In which, the early crop harvest from July 15th to July 31st reached 63,600 tons (21.2%); the main crop harvest from August 1st to August 31st reached 204,300 tons (68.1%); late crop harvest after August 31st reached 32,100 tons (10.7%).

In 2021, some main longan producing provinces in the North, such as Hung Yen, have an area of about 4,800 hectares, with an estimated output of 50,000-55,000 tons, 15-20% higher than in 2020. In which early crop output accounts for about 10%; main crop about 70%; late crop about 20%. It is expected that in 2021, the total VietGAP certified longan area will reach 1,300 hectares.

Son La has an area of 19,224 hectares, the output is estimated at nearly 98,500 tons, an increase of about 1,015% compared to 2020. In particular, the early crop accounts for about 28.3%; the main crop 68%; and the late crop about 3.7%.

The output of longan produced at the planting area codes reached 21,989 tons, ensuring standards and quality for longan exports to China, Australia, the US and some other markets. The output of longan produced according to the VietGAP process, following the clean agricultural product supply chain, reached 6,171 tons.

Hai Duong province has an area of 2,136 hectares, with output of 9,000 - 10,000 tons, equivalent to 2020. The early crop is about 5%; the main crop 90%; and the late crop about 5%. The production area according to international standards and according to the GlobalGAP process is 50ha (about 250 tons). The production area according to VietGAP is about 500 ha.

Chau Thanh district, Dong Thap province has 793 hectares of longan at the moment, being one of the localities with the largest longan growing area in the province. This year's longan will have an estimated output of more than 13,400 tons and will be harvested from July to December 2021.

However, the locality is implementing social isolation, resulting in difficult longan consumption, especially in July and August, there are more than 4,700 tons of longan waiting to be harvested but currently cannot connect the large quantity output markets.

Having acquired experience from the success in consuming lychee in 2021, the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority, the National Agricultural Extension Center (MARD) suggested press agencies and media promote information and propaganda to connect and consume longan in 2021.
