Pangasius prices

In Dong Thap, An Giang, Can Tho and Hau Giang provinces, pangasius prices today, August 18, are VND 21,000-22,000 per kilogram, unchanged compared to yesterday.

Prices for 30-35 head-sized pangasius breeds are VND 25,000-30,000 per kilogram, increasing by VND 7,000-10,000 compared to last month.

However, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the pangasius breed prices must be VND 40,000-50,000 per kilogram, so pangasius breed producers are profitable.

The whole Mekong Delta region has about 120 pangasius breeds production facilities, with nearly 3,000 hectares and total production of about 0.9 billion pangasius breeds, equaling 100% of the same period in 2020.

In the second quarter of 2021, the price of raw pangasius in the Mekong Delta was stable at VND 21,000-22,000 per kilogram. However, recently when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out quickly in Ho Chi Minh City and spread to the Mekong Delta, raising fish and transporting raw materials to factories and processing plants also faced many difficulties. This may affect the chain as a domino effect on all pangasius links and raw material prices in the near future.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhung, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hong Ngu district, snakehead fish prices have increased due to high demand while fish production in the population is still low. In addition, the Covid-19 is complicated, so many areas apply social distancing; snakehead fish is preferred because it is easy to store, process and transport.

Prices for 500-700 head-sized snakehead breeds are VND 200-300 per head, unchanged compared to yesterday.
