Price of live pork in the North on July 19

Live pork price on July 19 in the North market decreased by up to VND 2,000/kg compared to yesterday.

In which, VND 63,000/kg is the transaction level recorded in Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh and Ha Nam, after a decrease of VND 1,000 - 2,000/kg.

Vinh Phuc and Tuyen Quang provinces, after slightly reducing the price, were purchasing at VND 64,000/kg.

Also reducing the price by VND 1,000/kg, Hung Yen traders are buying for VND 65,000/kg - the highest level in the region today.

Thus, the price of live pork on 07/19/2023 in the Northern market is trading at VND 63,000 - 65,000/kg.

Live pork prices in the Central and Central Highlands on July 19

Live pork prices on July 19 in the Central and Central Highlands markets decreased slightly compared to yesterday.

Specifically, the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, after reducing the price by VND 1,000/kg, traded at the same price of VND 62,000/kg.

Thanh Hoa still buys at VND 63,000/kg - the highest level in the area today.

The remaining localities have no new price fluctuations.

Thus, the price of live pork on 07/19/2023 in the Central and Central Highlands regions is purchasing around VND 59,000 - 63,000/kg.

Price of live pork in the South on July 19

Live pork prices on July 19 in the southern market increased and decreased in contrast to yesterday.

Accordingly, after reducing the price together by VND 1,000/kg, Ben Tre, Vung Tau and Dong Thap traded at VND 59,000, 61,000 and 62,000/kg, respectively.

In the opposite direction, Vinh Long, after increasing the price by VND 1,000/kg, bought the price back to VND 59,000/kg.

Similar to this increase, Tra Vinh raised the price to VND 60,000/kg.

In Kien Giang, after increasing the price by VND 2,000/kg, the purchase price was raised to VND 61,000/kg.

Thus, the price of live pork on 07/19/2023 in the South is trading in the range of VND 59,000 - 63,000/kg.

The pig herd has increased sharply in the first 6 months of 2023

According to the Department of Livestock Production (MARD), the pig herd in the first 6 months of 2023 is estimated to increase by 2.5% over the same period in 2022. Total pork production in the first 6 months was estimated at 2,326 thousand tons, up 6.5% over the same period.

The price of live pork for slaughter in January and February 2023 fluctuated in the range of VND 51,000 - 52,000/kg and started to decrease from March (average around VND 49,000/kg).

By the end of April, the price of pork had increased again, in May 2023 the average price was VND 55,300/kg; the price in June 2023 reached VND 59,000/kg and now fluctuates around VND 61,000/kg.

Meanwhile, product prices lower than production costs from January to May 2023 affected the growth rate of the country's pig herd (decreased from 10.4% in January to 2.5% in June 2023), especially for small-scale livestock farmers.
