According to the report from the Khanh Hoa Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, on September 26, the department collected 28 pooled throat swab samples from live chickens and ducks sold in markets across four localities: Ninh Hoa, Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, and Cam Lam (7 pooled samples from each locality) to test for A subtype H5N1, H5N6 and H5N8 avian influenza viruses.
On October 2, the Regional Animal Health Department IV returned the results from the Real-time PCR tests, which revealed that 7 samples were positive for the circulating A/H5N1 virus. Among these, 2 samples were from Ninh Hoa Town and 5 samples were from Nha Trang.
In response to the situation, the Khanh Hoa Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department issued a directive requiring the Nha Trang and Ninh Hoa Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Stations to advise local authorities to instruct the market management boards to implement hygiene, disinfection, and decontamination measures in poultry trading areas and their surroundings.
Additionally, they have been tasked with closely monitoring the avian influenza situation in local poultry, paying special attention to areas with previous outbreaks. Timely detection and immediate handling of sick or dead poultry are crucial, and samples from any unusual or suspicious cases should be collected and sent to the department for testing and confirmation.
