On March 19, Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh, Director of Bach Ma National Park (located in Phu Loc district, Thua Thien - Hue province) said, an Indochinese greater hog badger had just been discovered at the Bach Ma post office (old) campus, at km 19 of the road to Bach Ma peak.

The area where this rare greater hog badger was discovered is one of the colonial-era architectural works, located in a complex of remaining French structures. Previously, another greater hog badger was also discovered by the unit's staff in the forest of Bach Ma, about 2km from the above location.

According to Mr Linh, the Indochinese greater hog badger (in the Tay language called luong mu), is also known by a number of other names like wild weasel and sloth bear. The name "greater hog badger" is given because its nose resembles that of a wild hog.

For a long time, illegal hunting led to a decline in the numbers of this species, so the International Union for Conservation of Nature classified this species as near-threatened on the IUCN Red List in 2008.

Also at Bach Ma National Park, a flock of silver pheasants was recorded by staff after the flock appeared at Hai Vong Dai.

According to Bach Ma National Park staff, this flock of white pheasants includes both males and females, including 6 birds. They only appear for a short time and then move quickly into the forest.

According to the leader of Bach Ma National Park, recently, many rare and endangered animals such as Truong Son muntjacs, greater hog badger, pheasant, brown-shanked douc ... have continuously appeared. This shows that the work of rescuing and preserving these animals has been done well.

In the coming time, the Park will continue to coordinate with local authorities and functional units to regularly receive, care for, and release these rare animals of many different sources of contributions to continue preserving, restoring and diversifying the animal ecosystems.
