Hoa Lo Prison – Memories of History

OFF: Hoa Lo Prison was built by the French colonial authorities in 1896. It once held thousands of revolutionary soldiers, men and women who carried within their hearts the ideal of independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

Each cell and every artifact here is not only evidence of brutality but also part of an epic of courage and perseverance.

The cramped, dark space offered each prisoner less than one square meter to survive. At night, the clanging of iron chains against stone floors became haunting sounds of Hoa Lo’s memory.
