Handling fishing vessels that lose tracking connection

On the morning of May 4th, the Border Guard Command of Binh Thuan and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces held discussions regarding the handling of fishing vessels from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province that have been sold and are currently operating in the sea areas of Binh Thuan province with lost monitoring connectivity for over 10 days.

Colonel Dang Cao Dat, Commander of the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, stated that through monitoring, the unit discovered 6 fishing vessels from Ba Ria-Vung Tau province currently operating in the sea areas of Binh Thuan province with lost monitoring connectivity for over 10 days. "These are vessels that regularly operate in distant sea areas for extended periods and have not returned to Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for a long time," Colonel Dang Cao Dat informed.

During the working session, the leaders of the Border Guard Command of the two provinces exchanged specific information about the duration, location of lost connectivity, and current positions of these 6 fishing vessels. The two units also proposed further measures to be implemented to address the issue of lost monitoring connectivity for over 10 days with regard to these subjects. Especially in handling the case of 2 fishing vessels that fishermen from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province sold to fishermen in Binh Thuan province but have not transferred ownership.

The two units also implemented measures to prevent, deter, and eliminate IUU fishing activities by fishing vessels and fishermen in their respective managed areas. Particularly focusing on cases where fishing vessels and fishermen violate foreign maritime zones to engage in illegal fishing activities.

This activity aims to effectively implement coordinated management and strict control measures for fishing vessels of each province within the jurisdiction of the other province. This is to contribute to ensuring political security, social order, and safety in the adjacent areas and maritime zones of the two managing units, jointly with the local authorities' determination and efforts to address the EC's "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood products, firmly safeguarding the sovereignty and security of the maritime and island borders in the coming time.
