Gia Lai to strengthen the provincial public–private working group on EUDR

(VAN) The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has issued Decision No. 1807/QD-UBND on the plan to implement measures to adapt to the EUDR within the province.

Accordingly, the Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Environment advised the Provincial People's Committee to consolidate and strengthen the provincial-level public-private working group responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This strategic step aims to enhance coordination and mobilize resources from both the public and private sectors to implement the proposed solutions effectively.

"The province has also built a database that meets EUDR requirements. This serves as a solid foundation to ensure transparency and traceability of wood products in the locality," said Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Environment.

At the same time, Gia Lai implements regulations and support policies for investment in large-timber forest planting, sustainable forest management, and improving wood quality through seedling production. The province also creates favorable conditions for forest product management and traceability, while promoting economic development in the timber and wood product industry through various approaches suited to the reality of the two-tier local government system.

Efforts are also made to enhance large-timber forest planting and convert small-timber forest areas into large-timber forests and encourage enterprises to invest in sustainable raw material areas to ensure an active source of raw materials for export-oriented production.

"The functional sector is committed to supporting farmers in developing sustainable planted forests in terms of cultivation techniques, legal documentation on land, and compliance with environmental protection requirements. Investments are also made in applying digital technologies such as GIS and positioning systems to build and operate a plantation traceability system that meets the requirements of the U.S. and the EU," shared Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan.
