At the Ministerial session themed “Riding with the Green Revolution 4.0: The Journey of Transforming Food System for a Sustainable Era,” held on the morning of April 17 as part of the P4G Summit, Mr. Truong Sy Ba, Chairman of Tan Long Group, delivered a speech sharing the company’s practical experiences in developing green and sustainable agriculture.
According to Mr. Ba, Tan Long Group currently employs nearly 5,000 staff members and operates in the agriculture sector. Its ambition is to become a leading agricultural corporation. The Group is constantly innovating and striving to contribute to a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable quality of life for global consumers.
“Tan Long’s mission is to create a path to happiness through comprehensive investment solutions, with a strong commitment to bringing prosperity to our nation and to all our partners,” he shared.
In recent years, Tan Long has observed increasing interest from partners and clients in clean production processes that meet ESG criteria or sustainable farming certifications. Green and sustainable agriculture is becoming a pressing demand in the face of climate change, market fluctuations, and shifting consumer trends.
“Food security in the future is not just about quantity. It must be sufficient, appropriate, and sustainable. We are not pursuing high yields at the expense of depleting future resources. Tan Long’s practical model is a fully integrated approach ‘from root to tip,’ covering everything from production to the final product, ensuring traceability and quality control in line with international integration standards,” Mr. Ba emphasized.
In the rice sector specifically, Tan Long has partnered with over 10,000 farming households and more than 20 cooperatives, instead of relying on middlemen, to ensure a stable supply chain for rice.
“We actively participate in sustainable farming programs such as the Vietnamese national project ‘Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High Quality and Low-Emission Rice Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong River Delta by 2030’ and the ‘Transforming Rice Value Chains for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta’ funded by the Australian Embassy and the Netherlands Development Organization, in collaboration with IFC. Through these programs, we receive consulting on sustainable cultivation techniques, reducing post-harvest losses and greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing farmers’ incomes,” he added.
“At the same time, our company is investing in advanced technologies such as state-of-the-art rice drying and preservation systems and optimized logistics to minimize production losses. Tan Long currently owns the largest rice processing plant in Vietnam, located in An Giang, along with five other rice mills strategically positioned near major raw material areas in the Mekong Delta,” Mr. Truong Sy Ba concluded.

Affirming that the root of the rice value chain lies in high-quality finished products, Mr. Truong Sy Ba, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Long Group, shared that the A AN rice brand developed by the Group has met the National Brand standards and has been successfully exported to various countries, including Japan, where it passed more than 600 inspection criteria.
“Our branded rice exports to the Japanese market have been continuously increasing, receiving very positive feedback from local consumers, and are expected to reach about 30,000 tons this year,” he said.
In the livestock sector, Tan Long Group has developed a closed-loop pig farming model known as Feed - Farm - Food. Each link in the entire value chain has achieved international certification.
Specifically, Tan Long partners with financial institutions and major global livestock and food corporations to consult and apply high-tech farming models. These include using breeding stock and feed made from 100% plant-based protein, implementing animal welfare practices, investing in waste treatment technologies, and advancing circular economy models.
In parallel, the Group is collaborating to transfer modern technologies in high-tech livestock farming, including odor control air filtration and advanced wastewater treatment systems, to ensure biosecurity and environmental protection. Artificial intelligence is also being applied to disease management within farms.
Currently, Tan Long is working with China’s largest livestock group, Muyuan, to take the first steps in developing multi-story livestock buildings, a modern farming model that enhances biosecurity and significantly reduces land usage, logistics costs, labor, and environmental treatment needs.
Tan Long Group is striving toward an ambitious vision for 2030. In the rice sector, the Group aims to achieve a production volume of 5 million tons of rice, reduce agricultural input losses and production costs by 10-15%, and bring post-harvest losses down to below 8%. In the livestock sector, the goal is to reach a scale of 450,000 sows and 10 million market pigs annually, placing the Group among the leading pig producers in Vietnam.
Tan Long Group commits to continuously striving to develop green and sustainable agricultural models, making effective contributions toward the shared goal of a sustainable and resilient food system for the future.
