(VAN) Thanks to effective communication efforts by local authorities and relevant forces, fishermen in Dong Thap feel secure at sea and strictly comply with IUU regulations.

The Coast Guard Region 3 Command, in coordination with the Mass Mobilization Department of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, as well as the Party Committee and People’s Committee of Gia Thuan commune (Dong Thap), has organized the 2025 program “Coast guard accompanying fishermen."

This regular initiative by relevant authorities aims to support fishermen in updating their legal knowledge, share in the hardships of offshore fishing, and create favorable conditions for them to continue fishing effectively.

The program featured activities such as public awareness campaigns, distribution of flyers, legal documents, and handbooks. National flags, flashlights, life jackets, and first-aid kits were given to some fishing vessels. Free medical check-ups and medicines were provided, along with gifts for families of policy beneficiaries and people in difficult circumstances. Commitments were also signed to strictly comply with IUU regulations.

Dong Thap currently has more than 1,200 fishing vessels, mostly operating offshore. Thanks to the communication efforts of local authorities and relevant forces, fishermen have been complying well with IUU regulations.

Since the beginning of 2025, many fishing vessels have enjoyed good catches and favorable prices, allowing fishermen to continue their work at sea with peace of mind.
