According to Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, the inaugural Dong Thap Lotus Festival, themed "The new-day lotus," would take place from May 19 to 21. The festival's objective is to appreciate the lotus flower by promoting the cultural-economic worth of items made from the Dong Thap lotus plant, promoting lotus farming attaching to tourism, and forming a great image of the locality. Additionally, it seeks to introduce unique lotus products in order to attract visitors to Dong Thap, so contributing to the local socio-economic growth.
Dong Thap will host a seminar during the festival to discuss ways to strengthen the Dong Thap lotus product value chain, as well as showcase OCOP-exclusive lotus goods from start-up enterprises. Organizing the Mekong Delta's first auction of lotus silk fabric, which crystallized the value of labor generated by Kinh and Khmer artists.
It is projected to establish a Vietnamese record with 200 lotus dishes, particularly during the Lotus Festival. After processing, the lotus meals will be arranged in the shape of a large lotus and offered to festival delegates and visitors.
