In an effort to restore and develop the population of red-crowned cranes at Tram Chim National Park, Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province through captive breeding and reintroduction into the wild, the provincial People's Committee of Dong Thap, along with relevant departments and agencies, recently received the first six red-crowned cranes from the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam.

This initiative is part of a cooperation program between the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee and the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (ZPOT), the Vietnam Zoos Association (VZA), the International Crane Foundation (ICF), and the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens Company Limited.

For the first time, six red-crowned cranes (approximately 7-8 months old), which were bred at the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, were transported to Vietnam by air. The group includes three males and three females.

After undergoing health checks, the cranes were brought to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens for quarantine in accordance with regulations on wildlife disease control. Following the quarantine period, they will be transported to Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap province for continued care and conservation efforts.

The transfer and reception of these six red-crowned cranes from the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam marks the first major milestone in the cooperative program between Vietnam and Thailand for the conservation of the red-crowned crane.
