Coming to Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023

Honoring the value of vine

On the afternoon of May 5, in Ho Chi Minh City, Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee held a press conference on the ceremony to receive UNESCO's recognition certificate inscribing "The art of pottery making of the Cham people on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding" and Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival in 2023.

Mr. Nguyen Tri Long, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ninh Thuan province, said that Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023 is held every two years to create Ninh Thuan's grape-wine brand, which is unique, different, rich in identity and honors the cultural quintessence of the ethnic groups in the province.

Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023 will take place from June 13-18; in which the opening ceremony of this event will be held at 8 pm on June 15 and the closing ceremony at 8 pm on June 18 at the Square - Monument of April 16, Phan Rang - Thap Cham City.

This is an important event to promote the image, homeland, people, natural landscape and specific products of Ninh Thuan, contributing to promoting tourism development of the province, honoring the economic values that grapes bring to the locality, clarifying the distinctive differences of Ninh Thuan grapes; creates opportunities for trade between grape growers, producers, and consumers with products processed from grapes.

During the festival, a series of special, unique and novel cultural, sports and tourism activities will take place, bearing the province's distinctive and distinctive strengths with 12 provincial-level activities, including Industry and Trade Market South Central Region - Ninh Thuan 2023; Workshop on value development of the vine and grape products; Workshop on preserving and promoting the value of "Cham people's pottery art"; Activities to visit vineyards, Bau Truc pottery village, My Nghiep brocade weaving, and Journey to discover Nui Chua world biosphere reserve; The best grapevine trellis competition,...

The festival's highlight is the opening ceremony of Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023 and receiving the UNESCO certificate of registration "Cham pottery art on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in need of protection".

In addition, in the districts and cities in the province also take place many unique and attractive cultural, sports and tourism activities and events with typical and unique characteristics of localities in the province such as activities such as: promoting, visiting, and experiencing Thai An vineyards; promotional activities, the introduction of craft villages, products of Bau Truc Cham pottery villages, My Nghiep brocade weaving...

High-tech grape growing toward export

According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan Province, the locality has 12 specific products. The grapevine is one of the outstanding local products. In previous years, Ninh Thuan province's total grape cultivation area was over 2,000 hectares, but now it is only 1,057 hectares.

"By 2025, Ninh Thuan will aim to develop 300 ha high-tech grape cultivation according to VietGAP standards, GlobalGAP towards export. Especially grapes with few seeds, no seeds, large and sweet fruits, guaranteed to serve good for domestic consumers, towards export. Simultaneously, apply technical solutions and research new varieties suitable for productivity and quality", said the Director of Ninh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee Tran Quoc Nam said that the vine is a susceptible tree to the weather. However, the advantages of the soil and climate of Ninh Thuan it has helped bring income to the people. Ninh Thuan is the only locality in the country that grows grapes on an industrial scale. 

Ninh Thuan is a famous wine raw material area, but few business units still do methodical work, mainly hand-made wine processing. Therefore, in the coming time, the province encourages enterprises to do deep processing to meet the market's huge demand.

Ninh Thuan has set a target that by 2025, the province's agricultural sector will export grapes to the world. Ninh Thuan's tourism industry also sets a target by 2025 to become a spearhead economic sector, striving to attract 3.5 million visitors. The tourism industry's revenue will be about VND 2,900 billion, contributing 13% of the GRDP. By 2030, Ninh Thuan tourism will become a spearhead economic sector and sustainably develop, attracting 6 million visitors. Tourism revenue will reach about VND 5,900 billion, contributing 15% of the GRDP.
